Lance Reddick’s Destiny 2 Legacy Left Untouched By Commander Zavala’s New Voice Actor

The torch is being carried by a new voice.

Earlier this year, Destiny 2 lost a legend as Commander Zavala’s English voice actor, Lance Reddick, sadly passed away. It was a moment of grief for the entire community, as many came together around Zavala within Destiny 2’s Tower to honor his legacy. While it was a moment of sadness, many were left questioning what the future held for the beloved character. Today, Bungie has announced that they’ve found his next voice actor in the beloved voice actor Keith David.

Keith David Takes on the Mantle of Zavala

Keith David will take the mantle of Commander Zavala once the upcoming expansion, The Final Shape, releases. He’ll presumably also voice the character for any future content releases, should he be needed. As for Lance Reddick’s original Destiny 2 work as Zavala, that will remain untouched. You can read a comment from Bungie below.

“Lance’s existing lines in-game will remain untouched for the upcoming release.”

Keith David has voiced many beloved characters you may have come across. His most notable role is as Arbiter Thel ‘Vadam in every Halo game between Halo 2 and Halo 5: Guardians. You may also know him as Sergeant Foley in 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 or the guy who screamed Ramirez a lot. For RPG fans, he’s easily recognizable as Captain Anderson in each of the three mainline Mass Effect titles.

With credits like that, it’s clear that Zavala’s legacy is being left in good hands. In a statement regarding his new role, David honored Reddick’s “sense of integrity” he brought to Commander Zavala’s character and said it was “his intention” to continue that trait in his upcoming performance.
