FFXIV: How to Get the Island Buffalo Mount

Don't make a coat out of it

Variety is FFXIV’s middle name when it comes to mounts. This is the game where you can ride basically anything. Flying dinosaurs, mecha-dragons, or living brushes. Just pick your poison and be happy. Oh, now we can ride Yaks after the 6.4 patch, The Dark Throne. Here’s how you can get the Island Buffalo mount.

How to Unlock the Island Buffalo Mount in FFXIV

You can be a proud owner of an Island Buffalo Mount by getting it from the Island Sanctuary. Who would’ve guessed?! You can buy it from the Horrendous Hoarder at (X: 12.6, Y: 28.3) for 50,000 Seafarer’s Cowries after reaching Sanctuary Rank 16, the new maximum level introduced in the most recent update.

The mount is based on the Grand Buffalo, which you can catch on the Island. You won’t get any extra milk with the mount, but it’s another big buddy to carry you around on those icy plains of Garlemald while you catch up with your MSQ progress.

If you had some extra Cowries stocked up from the previous months, this is the perfect time to put them to some use. This new mount is the perfect gold sink (or Cowrie sink) for that, so put them to some good use for once. With tons of new facilities and recipes ready to be discovered on the island, making some extra cash will be even easier in the longer run.

As of 6.4, the Island Buffalo is currently the most expensive mount to obtain in the Sanctuary, topping even the Island Alligator, which requires 35,000 Cowries as a sacrifice for riding it. If you have them all, congratulations! You can definitely call yourself an Island expert.

This is only one of the many new mounts introduced in The Dark Throne. If you’re feeling feral, you might wanna go for the new Lynx instead. Combat content is still the core of the game, anyway.
