How to Make Scaffolding in Minecraft

Scaffolding is a Minecraft block you can climb, similar to a ladder. The main difference is that, unlike ladders, you can build scaffolding outward and away from you without placing it against walls. This also means you can build sideways with it without having to crouch down and bridge across a gap. It’s designed to make building easier, but you’ll have to craft some first!

To make scaffolding, you’ll have to get your hands on some bamboo and string. More specifically, you need six pieces of bamboo and one string, which you’ll assemble in an “n” shape in your crafting table. Each batch of materials gives you six scaffolding blocks.

In most situations, string is the easier material to gather. You’ll mainly find it by defeating spiders, but you can also break cobwebs with a sword for some. It also often spawns in treasure chests, particularly those in dungeons, desert temples and woodland mansions.

On the other hand, bamboo is slightly harder to find, depending on your world’s nearby biomes. It spawns exclusively in jungle biomes, making it difficult to spot if the nearest jungle is thousands of blocks away. Fortunately, it isn’t a rare resource; once you finish the main challenge of finding a jungle, the rest is easy.

With both materials on hand, head into your crafting table and place them in the 3×3 grid to make your scaffolding!
