The extra content’s existence was confirmed in the Nintendo Direct conference that also brought news of the 3DS XL and is the first time a Mario game to get DLC.

Plans are to make the extra levels available after the game’s initial launch, president Satoru Shibata revealed.

The new content will be an extension of the new Coin Rush mode. This isn’t part of the main game and instead gives players three random maps in which they can mine for money. In this mode, coin balance is carried through the three levels, with a total shared via StreetPass to give your friends a headache.

New Super Mario Bros 2 is coming to North America on August 19th.
