Hogwarts Legacy Cutest Magical Beasts, Ranked

It's time to sit back and appreciate the game's best feature

In a world full of magic, mystery and moral dilemmas, there are a few things we can focus on when we think of Hogwarts Legacy and the Wizarding World. We may envision ourselves using magic to shape things around us, while at other times, we think about going on epic quests to save the world.

Me? I think about the cute animals. There’s nothing quite like the memory of running to Hogsmeade, seeing a Puffskein for the first time, and squealing in utter joy. Adulthood has taught me to appreciate the little things in life.

I appreciate these little guys so much that, after spending hours upon hours rescuing every beast, breeding them, and giving them all toys, I figured it was time to rank their cuteness. While I wish I could say they’re all equally cute, let’s face it, some of these animals look odd. With all that said, let’s rank every magical beast in Hogwarts Legacy by its cuteness.

The Best Part of Hogwarts Legacy Isn’t the Magic, It’s the Adorable Beasts

Hogwarts Legacy and the Wizarding World have tons of magical creatures that run and fly around in various locations, some being rarer and more aggressive than others. For the sake of simplicity, I’m only going to talk about the ones that appear in the Collection Log and that you can bring to your Vivarium. As much as I’d like to talk about trolls and centaurs for a few paragraphs, I wouldn’t quite consider them “cute.”

Alright, I won’t keep you waiting. Let’s rank the thirteen magical beasts you can rescue and bring to your Room of Requirement Vivariums in Hogwarts Legacy!

13. Thestral

Hogwarts Legacy Thestral Magical Beast

Yep, I’m immediately starting with a hot take. They are absolutely majestic creatures that I think are really interesting to look at. Whenever I look at them in the wild, they grab my attention with their unique appearance. However, of the many words I can use to describe them, I just can’t bring myself to think they’re cute.

They’d be near the top if this were the coolest animals list. On this one, in particular, I’ve got to break a few hearts.

12. Giant Purple Toad

Giant Purple Toad Hogwarts Legacy

I think this one is a little less surprising for some people. If these were small toads, I would probably put them higher on the list. Frogs and toads are cute!

These guys, though? Sure, I like their faces, and seeing baby ones is pretty cute, but there are so many others out there. I admittedly don’t have much to say about them aside from saying that, although toads are a little cute, the warts and slimy appearance take away from it a little. On the plus side, despite being “giant” toads, they’re still pretty small, which is adorable.

11. Graphorn

They act like dogs! How cute

The Graphorns are another example of magical beasts that look cool and intimidating but are not necessarily cute. They also lose some major points for being aggressive when you first encounter them.

I’ll admit, though, they gain a few brownie points for acting like massive dogs once they’re in your Vivarium. Honestly, this would be adorable if they, well, didn’t initially try to kill me at the beginning. I’m generally not one to judge menacing appearances, but when paired with that, it’s hard to rank Graphorns high on the list.

Oh yeah, baby Graphorns are also very cute. Arguably even cuter than the toads.

10. Hippogriff

Hippogriff Hogwarts Legacy Cutest Animals List

It seems like many of these animals fall into two categories: cute and majestic. Hippogriffs are another that, although they look amazing and are fun to fly around on, are more elegant than anything. I would certainly reverse if this was a best or coolest-looking magical beast list, but in terms of adorableness, the Hippogriff does lack slightly. Only slightly, though.

As well, like with most of these animals, baby Hippogriffs are very cute. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw them! While Hippogriffs are a little cute, I wouldn’t consider this their defining characteristic.

9. Fwooper

Those eyes

Fwoopers are odd little creatures. Birds are great and generally adorable, but every time I look at one of these guys, I feel like they’re staring at my soul. Just look into those eyes!

All things considered, I don’t dislike Fwoopers. The main thing is that when I look at other birds on this list, I find those just a little cuter. At least these guys don’t attack or scare us, though. They also get bonus points for their color variety.

8. Kneazles

Hogwarts Legacy Kneazles

Don’t worry. I can explain.

I love cats and think they are wonderful pets, but Kneazles just don’t have the same charm. Whenever I look at them in the Vivarium, I feel like they judge everything I do. Sure, I’ve felt this with some cats and dogs, but something about the Kneazle’s glances just doesn’t sit right

The part that really gets to me, though, is the offspring. Their actual appearance? Adorable, especially their faces. The color of my shiny baby Kneazle? I don’t love it. It’s a weird shade of yellow and takes away from the appeal. Still love them, but others are just a little cuter.

7. Phoenix

This guy knows what he wants in life.

The Phoenix is another example of a magical beast that is more graceful and elegant than cute. Why does it rank higher than the Hippogriff, then? Because it’s still pretty cute!

It is possible that I have a soft spot for birds in my heart, but honestly, this little guy puts a smile on my face every time I enter the Vivarium. It’s a shame we can’t breed them, or else I imagine the baby version would make this guy land in the top five, at least.

6. Unicorn

Hogwarts Legacy Unicorn Ranked

While I’d normally say the unicorn is also more majestic than cute, I love the baby versions of them. The offspring alone bump these guys up a few spots, let alone their actual appearance. While the unicorn doesn’t quite make me jump for joy over its adorableness, I truly appreciate watching it run around and play with toys while decorating my Vivariums.

5. Jobberknoll

Jobberknoll Magical Beast Hogwarts Legacy

It’s a bird. The Jobberknoll is just a small bird that looks a little different, but otherwise, it’s one of the game’s most normal-looking creatures. While that might sound bad at first, I’d much rather have this than a version with strange or even grotesque features. Birds are cute. There isn’t much more to say apart from that.

4. Diricawl

Hogwarts Legacy Diricawl Cutest Magical Beast List

My opinions on the Diricawl are almost identical to the Jobberknoll. It is a cute-looking bird that doesn’t look unusual or scary, and a lot of times, that’s all I want from my animals. Why does this rank above the Jobberknoll, then? Baby Diricawls.

Baby Diricawls are adorable and one of my favorites, alongside the animals in the top two spots on this list. I even prefer baby Diricawls over the beast in the third spot below! I love these little guys and just want the best for them.

3. Puffskein

Hogwarts Legacy Puffskein

I’ll be completely honest for a second here. When I first saw these little puffballs, I was initially happy before my mind compared them to a Furby. I was scared of them for a while after that.

Many hours in this game later, I’ve grown attached to my family of Puffskeins in the starter Vivarium, just living life so peacefully and happily. After I saw them more, I had to admit it; they’re cute. They’re small, round balls of fur that use an unusually long tongue to eat food. Sure, that’s a little weird, but looking past that, they rank pretty high in cuteness.

2. Niffler

Niffler Hogwarts Legacy

If it wasn’t for their pilfering tendencies, they’d be close to the #1 spot on this list. They are tiny, adorable creatures, and I openly squealed in joy when I saw a baby Niffler for the first time. I don’t regret it, and I have no shame.

Every single time I walk into my Vivarium of giant frogs, unicorns, and these guys, I immediately look for the Nifflers just to appreciate them. While earlier I said I might have a soft spot for birds, I am confident I have this in my heart for small animals.

Even looking past my not-so-subtle bias for small animals, Nifflers are still cute in nearly every way possible. If you can look past them stealing your valuables, they’d even make for a decent pet. Considering some side quests relate to Nifflers, though, it may be safer to appreciate them from the comfort of your Vivarium.

1. Mooncalf

Mooncalf Cutest Magical Beast in Hogwarts Legacy
Adorable little creature.

These guys are adorable. I love them with every fiber of my being and spend way too much time playing with them in the Vivarium. As soon as I saw them for the first time, I knew they would be a personal favorite, especially once I looked into those massive googly eyes.

Mooncalf beasts are cute in every sense of the word. They’re small creatures with adorable faces and goofy movements. They don’t steal, are not aggressive, and are just happy to be safe and sound in your Vivarium. The babies are even better since they have massive eyes but even smaller bodies.

Speaking of the Vivarium, that’s where you’ll see the best part: their avatars. The pictures in the Vivarium menu of Mooncalves, especially the babies, made me belly laugh when I first saw them. Top-tier adorableness combined with lovable personalities and funny moments, Mooncalves are the cutest magical beast you’ll find in Hogwarts Legacy.

With everything said and done, that’s been the list of every magical beast in Hogwarts Legacy ranked by cuteness. At the end of the day, they’re all cute, but some are just cuter than others. I don’t know about you, but I’d have half of these as a pet any day.

Especially a Mooncalf. I still love their eyes.
