Younger gamers may not get the significance of Crimson Dragon, one of Microsoft’s digital launch games for Xbox One. To these players, it’s simply an on-rails title featuring dragons, with elements of Star Fox thrown in for good measure. To longtime gamers, they’ll be pleased to know it’s the spiritual successor to Panzer Dragoon, the hardcore and beloved Sega Saturn franchise that also saw a sequel, Panzer Dragoon Orta, on the original Xbox.
