Witchfire: All Stats And What They Do, Explained

Stat knowledge is vital for an increased survival during expeditions.

Witchfire combines elements of souls-like, extraction, and roguelite genres, with RPG shooter mechanics taking center stage. Leveling up stats is a core feature of souls-like games, and Witchfire is no different. You’ll choose a class at the start, each with its own unique stat distribution, and as you progress, you can level up your class based on your playstyle.

In this guide, we’ll break down all the stats in Witchfire, explain what they do, and show you how to level them up effectively.

Witchfire Stats and Attributes Explained

Vitality

Vitality determines your overall health points and the size of your health bar. The higher this stat, the more health you have, making you tougher to kill.

Regardless of your class, we strongly recommend investing Volatile Witchfire—the game’s currency for leveling up—into Vitality first. This will help you avoid frequent deaths and complete more expeditions successfully, reaping greater rewards in a short time.

Healing

Upgrading the Healing stat improves how efficiently your character can heal. You can restore health using Elixirs and mushrooms found during expeditions. Early in the game, using an Elixir won’t fully replenish your health, but this changes as you level up the Healing stat.

Additionally, when you consume an Elixir, it doesn’t instantly restore your health. Instead, health regenerates gradually, and leveling up the Healing stat speeds up this process.

While investing a point or two in Healing is a good idea, we recommend prioritizing other stats like Endurance and Witchery for greater benefits. That said, don’t completely ignore Healing. As you progress to Gnosis I and beyond, enemies hit much harder, and you’ll need more efficient healing from Elixirs to survive.

Endurance

While health and healing speed are crucial for survival, stamina also plays a major role. Having low stamina impacts how far you can survive, as it’s not just tied to running.

With higher stamina, you’ll be able to jump more, dash more, recover stamina faster, and move more fluidly to outmaneuver enemies. On the other hand, with a low stamina bar or minimal Endurance stat upgrades, you could even die in the starting difficulty if overwhelmed by multiple foes.

We highly recommend upgrading your Endurance stat alongside Vitality. A longer health bar is essential for survival, but a higher stamina bar will allow you to stay in the fight much longer.

Witchery

While firearms are your primary method of eliminating enemies in Witchfire, spells can sometimes be even more effective. However, all spells come with a cooldown, so you can’t use them as frequently as firing bullets in rapid succession.

Upgrading Witchery helps reduce spell cooldowns significantly. Once you’ve leveled it up enough, both your light and heavy spells will recharge at a much faster rate.

It’s important to note that spells won’t recharge if you’re AFK or standing idle. To regenerate them, you’ll need to stay active by performing actions like melee attacks, killing enemies, or engaging in other in-game activities.

Metanoia

The Metonia stat is tied to the amount of Volatile Witchfire, the currency used for leveling up in Witchfire. The higher your Metonia stat, the more Volatile Witchfire you’ll gain from enemies upon their death and when consuming Absorb Manifestations.

While this stat isn’t essential to upgrade early on, as it doesn’t provide substantial benefits at the start of the game, we recommend saving it for later when earning larger amounts of Volatile Witchfire becomes more difficult.

Luck

Luck is always a tricky stat in souls-like games, typically linked to the rarity, quality, or quantity of items you receive during your runs. In Witchfire, increasing your Luck stat improves your loot, giving you more frequent ammo drops, including demonic ammo, and higher treasure drop rates, especially at higher difficulty levels.

While luck has passive effects during your expeditions instead of the active ones as you find in Vitality, Endurance, Healing, and Metanoia, we recommend you level this up when you have reached significant levels with other stats.

That is because as you upgrade stats more frequently, the cost of the next upgrade will rise significantly. Having a higher Luck stat will not help you much in surviving during the expeditions.

How to Level Up Stats in Witchfire

The Ascension Shrine in the Hermitorium is where you’ll go to level up your character stats in Witchfire. The currency used for leveling up is called Volatile Witchfire.

You can earn this currency by defeating enemies during expeditions. Occasionally, elite and smaller enemies drop Witchfire shards, which contain Volatile Witchfire. However, you can only collect the currency once you consume these shards, and it’s best to do this after returning to the Hermitorium.

Each time you level up, the cost for the next upgrade increases significantly, which can make farming for more Volatile Witchfire feel like a grind. To gather it more efficiently, you’ll need to raise the game’s difficulty level by unlocking Gnosis I and beyond.

That is everything you need to know about all stats and what they do in Witchfire. For more tips, we recommend you check out our Witchfire Early Access Impressions article.
