Witchfire, the first-person dark fantasy RPG shooter from The Astronauts, is finally making its way to Steam this month, in September 2024. It’s still launching in early access for at least another year, but it’s finally free from the Epic Games Store and can utilize all the excellent features provided by the Steam client and store. The developers have also confirmed that Witchfire will be playable on the Steam Deck from day one.
Witchfire Steam Deck Support Confirmed
The Astronauts announced on Steam that Witchfire is coming to Steam in early access on September 23, 2024. They also confirmed a few more details in this brief announcement post.
- Epic Games Store save files will work on Steam
- There will be achievements in the Steam version
- Witchfire has full controller support for the client
- Witchfire will be playable on the Steam Deck
While Steam Deck support has been confirmed, we’re unsure what optimizations the developers have done for it and how this build will run on the device.
We already know that the Steam Deck can provide a decent experience on the device, and you’ll find plenty of videos on YouTube showcasing the Epic Games Store version running on the Deck with a good mix of settings and XeSS enabled.
However, now that the title is finally coming to Steam, we’ll likely see improvements and optimizations further made to get the verified or playable status from the Valve team. If you’re interested in the title, you can now add it to your wishlist on Steam.
We had a great time checking out the early access release last year, and we’re excited to see how far it has come since then. It’s still a while till its full release, but the Steam release should allow developers to easily gather more feedback from a wider audience.
