Will Dragon’s Dogma 2 Require PlayStation Plus to Hire Pawns? – Answered

Recruiting Pawns is half the fun.

Dragon’s Dogma was well known for its unique Pawn system, and fortunately for fans and newcomers alike, this system will return in Dragon’s Dogma 2. With the option to choose between online and offline Pawns, one might wonder if you need PlayStation Plus to have online Pawns join your party.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Online Pawn PlayStation Plus Requirements

When Dragon’s Dogma launched back in 2012, players on PlayStation 3 were able to recruit Pawns created by other players online without needing an active PlayStation Plus subscription. Over a decade later, with the impending release of Dragon’s Dogma 2, will fans be able to experience all that the sequel has to offer without an extra subscription?

Thankfully, yes. According to information provided on the PlayStation Store Dragon’s Dogma 2-page, online play via PlayStation Plus is entirely optional, just as it was in the original game. This means that players will have the option to recruit other players’ well-built Pawns to help them on their journeys. I mean, if you’ve got to hear a Pawn remark about how large a tree is, you might as well find one that looks quite handsome while doing so.

To further illustrate this wording means that a PlayStation Plus subscription is not required to recruit Pawns from other players. Fans can look at Helldivers 2 as a solid example. On the Helldivers 2 PlayStation Store page it clearly states that PS Plus is required for online play. The lack of which is mentioned on the Dragon’s Dogma 2 page is reassuring for all Dragon’s Dogma fans out there.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 releases on March 22, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. If you’re struggling to wait that long, you may soon be in luck as there’s reason to believe that a Dragon’s Dogma 2 demo may soon be available for players who wish to get their first taste of the Arisen’s latest adventure.
