What is Unholy Might in Path of Exile 2?

Chaos damage just feels better.

Unholy Might is one of the strongest buffs you can get on minion builds in Path of Exile 2. The buff got introduced in PoE 2’s Dawn of the Hunt update through the Lich ascendancy and a new unique item.

But what does Unholy Might do, and where can you get it? Here’s everything you need to know.

What Does Unholy Might Do in Path of Exile 2?

Unholy Might grants 30% of all damage as extra Chaos Damage. It buffs either you or your minions, but most of the sources for Unholy Might come from the ascendancy or items, making it quite niche for builds.

The 30% of all damage as extra Chaos Damage is terrific for any build since it is one of the best forms of damage. It bypasses the usual elemental resistances from monsters. However, Chaos Damage is more difficult to scale up with gear in the endgame. If you want to make the most of Unholy Might, you’ll need to try, though.

When you add the buff to your overall damage, that is essentially an extra 30% damage output out of nowhere, which is why some specific builds should get Unholy Might when they can.

Where Can You Get Unholy Might in Path of Exile 2?

In PoE 2’s Dawn of the Hunt, there aren’t many ways to get it apart from the new Vis Mortis unique and the Lich’s Necromantic Conduit ascendancy.

Vis Mortis Plated Raiment body armor

  • (70–100)% increased Energy Shield
  • +(70–100) to maximum Mana
  • Minions have 50% reduced maximum Life
  • Minions have Unholy Might

The Vis Mortis Plated Raiment grants Unholy Might to your minions but cuts their life in half. That is a massive downside since minions must live to deal damage and increase your overall survivability by redirecting damage to them instead.

With the Vis Mortis body armor, you’ll solely rely on ranged minions, and they would act as glass cannon minions and try to deal enough damage before the monsters get to them. It isn’t ideal, but several builds could make this work, especially in the future.

As for the Lich ascendancy, you’ll get Unholy Might from the Necromantic Conduit.

  • Necromantic Conduit: You and allies in your Presence have Unholy Might while you are not on Low Mana. Lose 5% of Mana per Second.
  • Blackened Heart: 4% increased Magnitude of Unholy Might buffs you grant per 100 maximum Mana

Necromantic Conduit is difficult to maintain, as you need to generate so much mana to keep your Unholy Might buff. But it has workarounds, like increasing your mana regeneration rate up to a certain point or getting Mana Leech.

However, what gets this tech going is the Blackened Heart ascendancy node, which acts like an “Archmage” type of buff. The more maximum mana you get, the higher your damage output from the Unholy Might buff.

As of patch 0.2.0, those are the only ways to get the Unholy Might buff.
