Pokemon Scarlet and Violet continue the tradition of abilities. First introduced in Generation 3, abilities give Pokemon an additional tool in their arsenal. When a Pokemon with the Mold Breaker ability enters the field, a message comes up that states, “X Pokemon breaks the mold.”

It’s not entirely clear what that even means. So, when a Pokemon has the Mold Breaker ability, it means that it can use attacks on a Pokemon regardless of the opponent’s abilities.

For instance, if a Pokemon has the ability “Levitate,” this negates all ground-type moves. However, if your Pokemon has Mold Breaker, ground-type moves will now work as expected against the Pokemon.

This is a remarkable ability if you’re going up against a team with defensive plays centered around Pokemon’s abilities to negate incoming damage. It’s not going to get you out of every situation, but it’s a handy tool to have in your belt for competitive or an Elite Four member who might have some tricks up their sleeve.

Plenty of Pokemon can have the ability Mold Breaker, and some even have it as their Hidden Ability, which can be found using Ability Patches found in six-star Tera Raids.
