What Are Red Raid Eggs in Pokémon GO? – Answered

Eggs with unbound potential.

You may have seen red Raid Eggs appear in your Raids tab as you go about your day in Pokémon GO. There’s a good chance you haven’t seen one of these before, and that’s because they are meant to be a rare occurrence with the chance of a powerful catch.

Since October, only two red Raid Eggs have appeared in Pokémon GO, and the third one has begun to count down as of December 9, 2022. These eggs have a full 24 hours before they open, and if you haven’t seen these before, you’re probably scratching your head. But don’t worry, we’re going to cover exactly what these new eggs mean and how they work.

Pokémon GO – What Are the Red Raid Eggs?

These super rare red Raid Eggs are part of a new feature introduced in October called Elite Raids. They appear once per month now and will count down for 24 hours. When the timer finally stops, Trainers will have 30 minutes to take advantage of the opportunity and battle one of the most challenging raid bosses found within Pokémon GO. These are designed for much more coordination.

One of the unfortunate aspects of the new Elite Raids, though, is the lack of a remote raid feature. To participate in a red Raid Egg event, you’ll have to find a location in person. Hopefully, there will be enough people there to take on the Elite Raid Boss or you can muster up enough friends that also play Pokémon GO and have a decent team.

For those who are itching to get started on an Elite Raid, the current featured Pokémon is Hoopa Unbound. This was the first boss introduced back in October and it appeared once again in November. Now Trainers will have a third attempt to take down Hoopa Unbound and claim a victory of a red Raid Egg.
