Final Fantasy is an incredibly popular RPG that has made Square Enix famous. It is definitely one of the biggest video game franchises in the known universe and is mostly popular because of complex characters, immersive stories, and the ability to develop your characters, explore the world, and fight mighty foes. FF16 is out now, and I must say, we’ve gone through a lot in the three and a half decades when it comes to the Final Fantasy series. In fact, the Final Fantasy franchise is just a bit older than I am, which is both amazing and… well, not amazing, if you catch my drift. In this article, I will give you a short rundown on who or what the Bearers in Final Fantasy 16 are.

Who are the Bearers in Final Fantasy XVI (FF16)?

Within Valistea, you will inevitably run into the Bearers as you play Final Fantasy 16. You will recognize them easily by spotting a tattoo on their left cheek. Well, not really a tattoo, but rather a branding that is used to mark them as slaves, sadly. Bearers are interesting because they have the ability to use magic, without the assistance of Mothercrystal (it’s believed that they have a piece of the crystal within them which enables this power).

This is why they are used as tools and referred to as such (which is quite dehumanizing, given that they possess the powers that surpass the ones of a regular human being in the Final Fantasy universe), whether it’s for a menial task around the maintenance of the city, or for military, murder, etc. All in all, Bearers bear a very heavy cross in the very dystopian and harsh reality of Final Fantasy XVI. In fact, efforts are invested to discover Bearers when they are mere infants, so that they can be branded immediately.

Final Fantasy XVI is a PlayStation 5 exclusive that was released on June 22, 2023, worldwide.

Kind of a sad fate for Bearers if you ask me, but hopefully, evil will not prevail, and that’s up to you as the player.
