The First Berserker: Khazan is a challenging soulslike that will test you in many ways, forcing you to engage with its mechanics. It demands to be taken seriously and the default difficulty ramps up quite a bit during the mid-game.

This is par for the course for many other titles in the genre, but the good folk at Neople don’t want to cat exclusively to the hardcore audience in their first Soulslike. If you aren’t having fun with the default difficulty, you can always turn it down. Here are the two difficulty modes available in The First Berserker Khazan, and how they differ.

The First Berserker Khazan Difficulty Modes

There are two difficulty modes in The First Berserker Khazan, Normal and Easy. By default, players will start on Normal, and they’ll be able to switch to Easy after finishing Mount Heinmach, which is the opening area.

Khazan’s Easy Mode changes the game in the following ways:

  • Reduced Incoming Damage
  • Increased Attack Power,
  • Faster Stamina Recovery
  • Higher Weight Limit

All the changes above will improve your chance of survival and make the game far more accessible. You’ll still have to learn how to Brink Guard and Perfect Dodge, but it should be a far more manageable experience. According to the in-game prompt, the “Easy Mode” is intended for players who aren’t familiar with action games.

Switching to Easy Mode will lock the difficulty mode for the particular save slot. You won’t be able to select the Normal Mode after switching. For that, you’ll have to restart the entire game, so it’s definitely a choice that needs careful consideration.

How To Switch to Easy Mode in the First Berserker Khazan

After you have cleared Mount Heinmach, you can switch to the easy mode.

  • First, pause the game and open settings.
  • Here, navigate to the Accessibility tab.
  • The first setting is the difficulty, and you can switch from Normal to Easy.

Again, you can’t switch back to Normal if you’ve selected the Easy mode. I recommend deciding on a difficulty early on because once you get used to easy mode, you might find the game a bit too easy.
