What is Katamari? Can you taste it? Does it have feelings? Does being good at the Katamari really matter?
We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie has been out for just a bit now, and it’s received the same critical praise as the original. Being the best game in the series, and the one I hold closest to my heart, I’m not surprised at all. It’s an obtuse, endlessly soothing, wildly fun little game, but you may not know exactly how its “scoring” system works.
If you’ve ever cleared a level to the best of your ability and found the commissioner of your Katamari (and by extension, the King) to be a little more disappointed in you than you expected, you aren’t alone. We Love Katamari has a somewhat obtuse “ranking” system, and there are three levels of “clears:” Normal, Great, and Super.
What is a Super Clear in We Love Katamari?
A Super Clear is the absolute pinnacle of achievement in any given level and involves clearing with the biggest size, fastest time, or otherwise most impressive performance possible. These are sometimes very difficult, and Super Clears are denoted by a glowing starburst effect surrounding the planet your Katamari creates.
Wondering how to get a Super Clear in a given level? Gamefaqs user JagYui made an excellent guide back in 2006 detailing some really great strategies that hold up even with today’s remake.

And there you have it. If you’re a completionist (and a masochist), here’s what you’ll need to do for each stage to Super Clear it. Remember: this isn’t for anything but bragging rights. There aren’t any special rewards for Super Clears, besides the King’s approval (but that might be the best reward of all).
