Space Marine 2 PS5 Pro Quality and Performance Modes Detailed

PSSR 4K, FOR THE EMPEROR!

The major Patch 5.0 for Space Marine 2 is slated for the first half of December 2025 and includes the Dark Angels Chapter Pack, Operation: Obelisk, and official support for the PS5 Pro. The developers are optimizing the title for the mid-generation refresh console, and can now further push the resolution and frame rate in both performance and quality modes. Here is what you can expect from the PS5 Pro while playing Space Marine 2.

Space Marine 2 PS5 Pro Modes

Like the PS5, the PS5 Pro offers two modes for playing Space Marine 2: Quality and Performance.

Space Marine 2 PS5 Pro ModeResolutionFrame Rate
Quality1080p – 2160p with upscale PSSR to 4K30 FPS
Performance1080p – 1440p with upscale PSSR to 4K60 FPS

Both the Quality and Performance modes target 4K resolution, which is upscaled from a minimum resolution of 1080p. The Quality mode targets 30 FPS but uses a higher internal resolution range of 1080p to 4K. We expect the image to look much sharper in this mode considering the internal resolution can reach native 4K.

In Performance mode, the minimum internal resolution mentioned is 1080p, and we’ve seen that PSSR does a decent job of upscaling from that resolution. Thankfully, the internal resolution can go up to 1440p, which means that even at 60 FPS we should see a decent output image upscaled at 4K.

Compared to the base PS5 which uses FSR, this is a pretty big jump in terms of the internal resolution. The internal resolution of the base PS5’s performance mode could drop as low as 720p, which was then upscaled to 4K, and it wasn’t pretty. Even if it isn’t as good as DLSS, PSSR’s image reconstruction is usually better than FSR in most cases.

We’re excited to see Space Marine 2 in action on the PS5 Pro and hope that the PSSR implementation doesn’t exhibit the visual flaws we’ve seen in other third-party releases.

On the PC side, Patch 5.0 finally brings Frame Generation DLSS and FSR 3 support to Space Marine 2, which was absent at launch. This will surely boost the performance significantly for RTX 4000 series owners, and other GPUs thanks to FSR 3.

Patch 5.0 doesn’t have a release date just yet, but the developers have confirmed in the November community update that it’s coming sometime in the first half of December 2024.
