With South Park: The Stick of Truth in stores, show creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone successfully completed their quest to make a game for the fans. Yesterday, we covered the basics with these beginner’s tips, including useful items and surviving battles. Today, we’ll go over the complicated stuff, including how friends can help during combat, and how to use checkpoints.
Respect our authoritah and enjoy these helpful pointers.
It’s a Good Time to Yell at CartmanÂ
If you own the Xbox 360 version of The Stick of Truth, as well as an active Kinect device, then you’ll enjoy this feature. Although it doesn’t do much in terms of gameplay, yelling at Cartman provides plenty of laughs. Berate him however you please, and he’ll react accordingly in a curse-laden fit of rage.
Checkpoints are Your Friends, and Ideal for Fast TravelÂ
Roaming around South Park is great, especially if you’re a fan of the show and want to visit many of its locales, like the movie theater and the rhinoplasty shop. However, if you’re in a hurry to complete quests, you might want to take advantage of the fast travel system.
Here’s how it works. There are flags scattered throughout the city, and to unlock them, you simply need to walk up and activate these points of interest. Once you do this, Timmy (or rather TIMMAYYYY!) will roll up and provide you with a quicker means to get around.
In addition, you can also save at these points, should you want to continue your adventure later.
Work Your Way Up to HardcoreÂ
South Park: The Stick of Truth looks like a difficult RPG, but Parker and Stone, alongside the team at Obsidian, made it quite approachable. That means it might be a little easier than some players expect.
However, for those seeking a more difficult role-playing challenge, it’s available. Simply crank the game’s difficulty to Hardcore and you’ll find plenty of enemies that won’t go down easy, and unleash an assortment of attacks to keep you on your toes.
Normal, on the other hand, is good for getting a hang of the battle system, and you can gradually get better before attempting to take your game to the next level.
On top of that, don’t be afraid to play on Easy. No one will call you a pansy. Well, Cartman might.
Try the Jew Class for a Real ChallengeÂ
There are five classes in the game – Fighter, Mage, Thief, Cleric and Jew – and we explained previously there are certain techniques and skills to learn with each. However, for more experienced role-playing fans, your best bet might be the Jew.
That’s because the class is considered high risk, high reward. The Jew has less energy than the other classes, but as they become closer to death, they get stronger. This may work in your favor as you battle enemies with a group, especially if you have a healer that gives you a boost of health so you can last longer in battle.
Get the ChinpokomonÂ
There are different Chinpokomon characters hidden throughout the city of South Park, and collecting them will help you get closer to completing the game. The first one is relatively easy to find, stuck in a tree that you’ll walk past heading Cartman’s house.
After earning the bow and arrow shooting capability, go back to the Chinpokomon and shoot it out of the tree. It’ll fall to the ground, and you’ll begin your collection.
Getting by With a Little Help From Your Friends
As you work your way through South Park, you’ll find a number of characters to interact with. Even if you’re busy on a quest, take the time to stop and chat with them. They will join your Facebook party, and you’ll be able to level up your character and earn new abilities.
For good measure, some friends offer side quests that, upon completion, will provide you with rewards, a few of which are inspired by the TV show.
For instance, as you’re walking through town on your way to Tweek’s coffee shop to recruit him, you’ll spot Al Gore hiding in the bushes. Talk with him and he’ll provide you some electrical equipment to plant throughout the city – for the good of the planet, of course.
Some friends won’t accept you right away, and will require you to complete these quests before doing so. Still, we suggest taking them, because not only will they help you level up, but you’ll also find a humorous situation or two taken straight from the TV show. Fans will love that.
Good luck, and enjoy your stay in South Park!
