Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) – Should You Wake Up Shadowheart or Reach for the Artifact?

Generally speaking, you should always wake Shadowheart instead of reaching for the artifact. It is impossible to steal her artifact even while she’s unconscious, so waking her up will save you time, as you’ll skip a few conversation lines.

You also cannot pickpocket the artifact from her before the dialogue begins. If you attempt this, she’ll automatically wake up, initiating the regular cutscene and conversation.

If you reach for the artifact, Shadowheart will wake up, pocket the artifact, and ask what you’re doing. Regardless of how you answer, the conversation will continue, with the two of you questioning how you’re alive and where to go next.

Fortunately, even if you do reach for the artifact, she will not act hostile toward you or initiate combat. Regardless of your choice, Shadowheart will express gratitude for saving her on the Nautiloid, and you’ll gain some approval from her. You can choose whether you’ll travel together or part ways from here.
