Resident Evil 7 – How to Get the Snake Key

Find out how to get the Snake Key and gain access to the other locked rooms in Resident Evil 7.
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

The Baker estate in Resident Evil 7 is quite large, all things considered. If you want to be able to get around easily, you’re going to have to find different keys scattered throughout the game. Some of these keys can be quite tricky to find, so we’ll walk you through obtaining the Snake Key in Resident Evil 7, which will open up entirely new areas for you to explore and loot throughout the Baker residence. Keep in mind that other things may change when you acquire new keys, though, so always be on the guard when exploring old areas.

After you have cleared the game’s second area, and survive the Old House, you have to fight Marguerite, the game’s second boss, in the Greenhouse. Once you’ve beaten her, which can be quite tough, you can safely explore the area and find some key items that you’ll need to progress. You’ll receive another call from Zoe, the Baker daughter that has been helping you out for quite a while now, and be told to return to her camper, which is located in the Yard.

Make your way back to Zoe’s Camper to learn that Lucas has taken her hostage. If you want to free her, you’ll need to go down to the Dissection Room, where the “pig” is. The “pig” that Luca is referring to is the deputy that was killed just before your first fight with Jack Baker in the Garage. The deputy’s body has been moved, though, and will now be on the gurney, instead of hanging up on a hook. Interact with the body to find the Snake Key in its throat. This key will allow you to unlock additional areas in the game, like Lucas’ bedroom, where you can find the Model Shotgun that you need to get the M21 Shotgun.

Once you get the Snake Key, though, things change quite a bit throughout the Baker residence. Rooms that were once empty are now filled with additional enemies that you’ll need to worry about. They are still finite, thankfully, so once they are gone, they are dead. That doesn’t mean they won’t be a problem for you, though. Make sure to save your heavy ammo for when you really need it.

With the Snake Key in tow, you can now gain access to additional rooms throughout the Baker Residence. You can return to our Resident Evil 7 guide to learn more about the game.
