Can You Play Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Steam Deck?

Be a samurai on the go.

There is much talk regarding whether Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be playable on the Steam Deck at launch. In a previous Q&A session on February 12, it was mentioned that the game would not be compatible with the Steam Deck because it falls below the minimum specs for PC.

However, a few weeks after, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows was submitted for Steam Deck verification and under classification for Valve. So will Assassin’s Creed Shadows be available on the Steam Deck or not?

Will Assassin’s Creed Shadows Be Available on Steam Deck on Launch?

Assassin’s Creed Shadows will launch on Steam simultaneously on all platforms. Fortunately, the game is Steam Deck verified and will also be available on the device at launch.

Being verified means it will have Steam Deck compatibility and full functionality like:

  • All functionality is accessible when using the default controller configuration.
  • This game shows Steam Deck Controller icons.
  • In-game interface text is legible on the Steam Deck.
  • This game’s default graphics configuration performs well on the Steam Deck.

There’s a reason to be a bit skeptical about the last line, as just a month ago, the game basically “confirmed” that it would not be released on the Steam Deck due to poor performance.

But things could’ve changed, and it might perform decently on the Steam Deck upon release. If not, you still have access to the game on the same platform on PC. If you are going to play it on the Steam Deck with no intention of playing it on a desktop, it’s better to wait until the others have tried the game on the device just to be sure.

Pre-purchasing the game on Steam will give the players a free “Claws of Awaji” expansion. If you are interested in more bonuses, here’s our take on whether the Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Collector’s edition is worth it.
