Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: All Pokemon That Give Defense EVs and Where to Train

If you’re EV training your Pokemon in Defense, you’ll find below all the Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet that give Defense EVs when they’re defeated.

Where is the Best Place to EV Train Defense in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

The most convenient place to EV train Defense in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is at the Asado Desert. Many of the Pokemon you’ll find here give Defense EVs without you needing to eat a sandwich.

The following table lists the Pokemon you can find at the Asado Desert as well as how many Defense EVs they give with and without the Power Belt:

A slightly less convenient place to EV train Defense is to chow down on a Rock Encounter Power sandwich and head to Research Station No. 4 if your goal is to max out your Pokemon’s Defense. You’ll find plenty of Garganacl that give 3 Defense EVs each (or 11 if your Pokemon is holding a Power Belt). Some Garganacl have the Sturdy Ability, so it’s recommended to bring a Pokemon with the Mold Breaker Ability to help defeat them all in one hit.

Glimmet and Glimmora will also appear frequently using this method, but they give Special Attack EVs rather than Defense. Ignore them and focus on the easy to notice Garganacl. Corviknight and, if you’re playing Violet, Iron Treads also appear in Area Zero and give 3 Defense EVs each, so you can take out any of them that you find, too.

Where to Get the Power Belt Item (and What it Does)

You can buy the Power Belt item from any of the Delibird Presents stores across Paldea, including three in Mesagoza, one in Levincia, and one in Cascarrafa. Each Power Belt costs 10,000 Poke Dollars.

The Power Belt gives the Pokemon holding it 8 extra Defense EVs every time it gets EVs, even EVs of a stat besides Defense. It’s highly recommended to equip this item onto all of your Pokemon that you want to EV train in Defense to make the process go by faster, unless you intend to give a certain Pokemon only 4 Defense EVs.

All Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet That Give Defense EVs

Have you strayed a bit far from your EV training spot and are starting to see different Pokemon? Or do you see an outbreak and want to know if you can EV train off it? Use Ctrl/Cmd + F to see if they give Defense EVs. If the Pokemon isn’t on this list, check if it gives Attack, Special Attack, Special Defense, Speed, or HP EVs instead. If it doesn’t appear on any of these lists, that means it gives more than one stat in EVs and generally isn’t ideal for EV training with.

The following tables do not include Pokemon that give EVs of multiple stats, nor do they include Pokemon that give Defense EVs but aren’t found in the wild, such as Scarlet and Violet’s starter Pokemon and legendary Pokemon. Pokemon that appear only as special Tera Type Pokemon in the wild also aren’t listed, since you can’t OHKO them and are thus not practical for EV training.
