Pokemon Indigo Disk: How to Get Gouging Fire in Scarlet & Violet

Welcome home, Paradox Entei

Gouging Fire was one of the last Paradox Pokemon introduced in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, debuting during the Indigo Disk DLC. Representing Entei from the Gen II Legendary trio, this mighty creature is available for those who went for the extra catch’em all mile.

Before setting on your journey for the paste version of Entei, be mindful that Gouging Fire is a Scarlet exclusive. There’s also only one per save file, so make sure you catch it. With that in mind, you’ll first need to capture at least 200 Pokemon and speak with Perrin next to the Blueberry Academy entrance.

Once you do, she’ll give you a tip about Gouging Fire’s (and also Raging Bolt’s) location in Area Zero, home of Paradoxes. You should see a picture of Gorging Fire standing atop a cliff in Area Zero, so head there to catch it! If you haven’t unlocked flying on Koraidon yet, consider doing so as it lets you reach it almost immediately.

When you get to Area Zero, head to the main gate where you first entered it and jump straight past the initial Pokemon you see. Your goal is to reach the top of the waterfall directly in front of you, so flying makes it quite easier. You can reach the top without having it too, it just takes a bit longer.

You should see Gouging Fire in this exact spot as long as you got your tip from Perrin and are playing Scarlet, of course. It acts just like any other Legendary, which means it’s a pain to catch. Bring tons of Ultra Balls and Pokemon that can inflict status effects such as Sleep or Paralize.

Gouging Fire is (unsurprisingly) a Fire-type, so bringing a Grass-type Spore/False Swipe user like Breelom could be dangerous. Bring a bulky Water or Rock type to resist his attacks as you slowly chip its HP away and try to push it into its new Poke Ball home.

If you’re having too much trouble with it, bring some Timer Balls as they’re the strongest ones available once you reach the 11th turn. Alternatively, just use a Master Ball since this is one of the best targets for it.

Don’t worry if you knock it out. As with all Legendaries, it should respawn as soon as you wait enough in-game time. Alternatively, just quickly close the game as soon as you realize you messed up or accidentally landed a bad critical. Remember to save the game in front of the Pokemon to avoid reaching it once again. The same is true for fellow Paradox Raging Bolt, so no need to stress about it.
