Pokemon GO: A Mega Discovery Special Research Guide

How to get your first Mega Pokemon!

As we’ve previously covered, Mega Evolution is live in Pokemon GO, and four Pokemon are currently included in this new feature. While you have your work cut out for you to get your hands on a Mega Blastoise, Charizard, or Venusaur, everyone does have an opportunity to get a Mega Beedrill much easier. Accompanying the roll out is a new Special Research questline, called A Mega Discovery. Completing all the tasks included will net you a number of supplies, including Weedle Candy if you need it and the new Mega Energy resource (for Beedrill, natch).

Pokemon GO A Mega Discovery Tasks and Rewards

There are quite a few tasks as part of the new Special Research quest, but most of them aren’t particularly challenging especially if you’ve been keeping up with Pokemon GO. There are four “steps” in total, each with a series of rewards. By the end you’ll need to fight some Team Rocket grunts, take a buddy snapshot, upgrade a Weedle, and join a Mega Raid. Here is the list of tasks and rewards you’ll encounter as you complete A Mega Discovery.

One you’re done with this list of Special Research tasks and enjoy the story, you should have all you need to Mega Evolve your Beedrill. Once you Mega Evolve your Beedrill for the first time, you’ll see things like the CP boost, the timer (which shows how long the transformation lasts), and the cost of Mega Energy decrease after the initial, higher cost. You’ll even get to jump into a Mega Raid for free, and you don’t even have to win to get the reward here. Not bad!
