Getting your hands on Legendary Pokemon in Niantic’s GPS-driven adventure Pokemon GO is no easy task. Often, Legendary Pokemon will cycle in and out of availability, only show up during special events, or during super difficult Raid challenges. And in that fashion, Victini, the “Victory Pokemon,” was only available to folks who participated in the 2020 Pokemon GO Fest. But coming in September, every Pokemon GO player will be able to (attempt) to capture this Mythical creature.
How to Catch a Victini in Pokemon GO
You’ll have to wait a few weeks to catch Victini in Pokemon GO, but the wait will be worth it if you want this particular Pocket Monster. Towards the end of September 2020, a new Special Research story will be released, in which players help Professor Willow study the Pokemon in question. The name of the quest is called “Investigate a Mysterious Energy,” and any player will be able to go through it, Pokemon GO Fest ticket or otherwise.

If you did pay for a Pokemon GO Fest 2020 ticket, you may be wondering what’s in it for you. You already paid for admission, after all! Well, players who are just participating for the first time will be able to catch Victini. But if you already have one and go through the Special Research story, you’ll be able to snag some Victini Candy. And if you want to actually power up your Victini, you’re going to want to jump on the chance.
It seems like a lot of Pokemon GO’s September events are all about closing out the summer, as we’re seeing the return of Victini, as well as the various special events phasing out. To that end, if you haven’t checked out the Jessie and James Team Rocket content in Pokemon GO yet, you’ll want to try and do that ASAP. September 29 is their last day, so once September 30 rolls around the opportunity to face off against these classic characters will no longer be available.
