Palworld: Are Paid Dedicated Servers Worth It?

Setting up a server is hard, is this the way to go?

Setting up a dedicated server for you and your friends can be surprisingly difficult in Palworld, but there are a few ways to circumvent some major headaches. Is renting a dedicated server worth your time and money?

Should You Pay For A Dedicated Server in Palworld?

If you’re playing on Steam and want to have a server dedicated completely to your friends, then doing a Dedicated Server is the way to go. However, with the cost of electricity and the wear on your PC, keeping your system running may be more of a hassle than it’s worth. Renting a Dedicated Server through sites like Shockbyte, Citadel Servers, or Nitrado can keep the game running without that extra strain, so let’s find out if it’s worth it.

Since I’ve never created a Dedicated Server before, I couldn’t be bothered to go through the process of doing it on my own, so I rented two servers through Shockbyte. I wanted to set up one for my friends, and one for my coworkers so we could all join in the general wackiness of Palworld together and see what was going on at all times. While there are a few caveats that make having a web-hosted server slightly more cumbersome, if you don’t have the time to dedicate to creating a server, this is a fantastic option.

For around $10 a month, I can have 12 players on this server at any particular time. There is another plan through Shockbyte that allows me to have up to 32 players in total, which runs $20 a month. I can upgrade or reduce my plan at any time, so if I have more Pals who want to join in on this adventure, I can also make this happen. If you’ve got enough friends that are willing to chip in, that’s less than a dollar per person, and plenty of extra free time to explore the world around you.

Since it’s all controlled through a webpage, as well, you won’t need to keep your PC up and running at all times either. You can go onto the page and turn the server on or off at any time, so you won’t need to worry about any sort of Raids destroying your base, or other issues that could arise. Anyone can jump on at any time, and you’ll be ready for adventure in just a few clicks with the dedicated IP address you receive.

Are There Any Issues With Paid Dedicated Servers in Palworld?

So far, the one issue that I’ve been able to find is the lack of tweaking to the game world. Since the world is hosted on a Server elsewhere, I have not found anyway as of the time of this writing to be able to customize world settings such as Experience Points or Stamina. This means you’ll be jumping into what is roughly the base version of the game without any tweaks, so you’ll be running off of base stamina and everything like that.

If you’re fine with this option, however, this is a great way to get a server up and running in a matter of minutes and one that will stay online without you needing to punish your PC. Alongside the upgradeable plans, this makes it the simplest and easiest way to get into the game without much hassle.
