New Fortnite Chapter 2: Season 3 Release Date

Announced in a blog post from Epic, the new Fortnite Chapter 2: Season 3 release date is Thursday, June 11. Thankfully, this delay isn’t as long as the previous one and is only extending the season by one week. Epic did not give a reason for delaying the season, but one can safely assume that there were still bugs that needed to be fixed or new content that needed to be polished.

Further, Epic has announced that a special one-time event will be taking place on Saturday, June 6 at 2 PM ET. The event is being called “The Device” by Epic, but most Fortnite fans know it as the Doomsday event. If you’ve played recently, you’ve likely seen the giant timer in the main menu that has been counting down to the event.

It’s unclear what Epic has in store for players when the new Fortnite Chapter 2: Season 3 release date rolls around. However, we can expect the new season to have some type of theme to it, like previous seasons. In Chapter 2: Season 2, fans were treated to a Spy theme which even saw a Deadpool skin added to the game.

Just a few days ago, Epic released a special set of challenges called Storm the Agency which was supposed to fill the gap until the Chapter 2: Season 2 end date. As the name implies, these challenges were focused on the Agency, which is the likely location of the upcoming Doomsday event. It remains to be seen if Epic will add in any new challenges during the one-week extension, or if fans will just have to wait patiently.

If you’ve been playing Fortnite for a while, you’ve likely noticed that the seasons are progressively getting longer. Back when the game first launched, a season usually lasted three months max. However, with the launch of Chapter 2, Epic has been spreading things out. Fortnite Chapter 2: Season 2 is now officially the longest season in Fortnite history.

While it is a bit discouraging to hear about the new Fortnite Chapter 2: Season 3 release date, delays are a pretty normal part of the gaming community and often allow for developers to avoid crunch and produce a better product. Hopefully when June 11 rolls around, Epic will have everything pieced together and will be ready to launch a new season!
