Mortal Kombat X – How to Unlock Jason Voorhees on PlayStation 4

Many PS4 owners are having issues loading Voorhees. Find out the trick to get him to appear!
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

If you picked up the Kombat Pack for MKX on PlayStation 4, you may be wondering why Jason Voorhees isn’t showing up for you today. It seems as though there’s a minor glitch in the PS4 version and Jason Voorhees doesn’t load. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with a quick fix to get around this issue and start playing Jason Voorhees immediately in Mortal Kombat X.

Update: The glitch has been fixed by Sony and NetherRealm Studios, but if you haven’t received the updated MKX patch yet, the quick fix to get Jason is still listed below.

First head to the PlayStation Store, search Mortal Kombat X, then select the game page and scroll down to Add-Ons. Scroll down to the Horror Pack and Jason Voorhees and download both if you haven’t done so already. Even if you’ve already downloaded the Kombat Pack, you still need to download Jason Voorhees and the Horror Pack separately.

With both installed on your PS4, make sure you have Netflix downloaded (you don’t need an account, just download it from the PS Store) and load up Mortal Kombat X. Select “One Player” from the main menu, then choose Single Fight or Training. Select any two characters and your stage, then while the game is loading press the PS Button and load the Netflix app. If you don’t have it on your main bar it’s under the TV & Video section.

You’ll be asked if you want to suspend Mortal Kombat X in order to open the Netflix app. Select “Yes” to continue and let the Netflix app load for a moment. You don’t have to actually enter the app if you don’t have any credentials in place, you just need MKX to be suspended for a moment. After about 10 seconds, go back to Mortal Kombat X, press the Options button to pause the game, then scroll down to Player Select to head back to the character select screen.

If done correctly you will see Jason Voorhees on the top row to the far left, and the silhouette of Tanya on the far right. Unfortunately, you have to do this every time you want to play as Jason Voorhees until the glitch is corrected.

The Short Version:

  • Download the Kombat Pack, Jason Voorhees and the Horror Pack from the PS Store.
  • Start Mortal Kombat X.
  • Go into Training Mode or a Single Fight, select two characters and a stage.
  • As the fight loads, press the PS button and open the Netflix app to suspend MKX.
  • After a few seconds go back to MKX, pause the game and go back to the character select screen.
  • Jason Voorhees will now be selectable.
