Modern Warfare 3: How to Slide Cancel

Slide, jump, aim, and slide

In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the slide cancel mechanic has returned, which means movement fans can return to their gameplay demon routes after leaving MW2. This year the slide cancel is a bit different, but pulling off the move is still the same as it was and I’m here to give you an easy explanation. Here’s how to Slide Cancel in Modern Warfare 3.

How to Slide Cancel in MW3

To slide cancel in Modern Warfare 3, you need to crouch while sprinting so you enter the slide and then tap your jump button to end the slide. As soon as you tap the jump button you should aim your weapon and get ready for a fast engagement. This is one of the best ways to throw your enemies off in close quarters.

Keep in mind that there is a small cooldown that follows the slide cancel in MW3. In past titles, slide cancels could be done at any time and they would reset the Tac Sprint. When I was getting used to slide canceling in COD again, I had to remind myself that there was a short delay in the sprint following the slide itself.

The cooldown is in place to limit the slide cancel spam. Within games like Modern Warfare 2019, the mechanic was used to essentially infinitely sprint at full speed while also remaining evasive. Having the cooldown ensures that the movement skill gap remains but there is no constant spam. After all, I like my thumbs working after a gaming session.

To make your slides even more effective in MW3, you can equip the Tactical Pads perk in the boots slot. Just having these equipped means you can aim while sliding and the movement itself goes further. You’ll have to give up Covert Sneakers in the process but it might be worth it for your SMG classes.
