Mass Effect: Andromeda – Scientific or Military Outpost?

Recommended Videos

After completing their first Remnant Vault, players get the chance to settle their first Andromeda outpost, Prodromos. AS the Pathfinder it is the player’s decision of how the Andromeda Initiative approaches life in the Andromeda galaxy, and players get to choose between settling a military or scientific outpost. Below you’ll find all the details you need to know to make the best decision for your playthrough.

Does it Matter?

One of the biggest questions that we’ve seen asked about this particular decision is ‘Does it even matter?’. The short answer is no, not really. While the decision does change some of the conversations that you have with certain NPCs, the overall impact that it has on the game and its story are minimal. That doesn’t mean the decision isn’t important, though.

How to Decide

While it may seem to some like this decision is pointless, it allows players to build the Ryder that they want their character to be. Because of this, we suggest choosing an option that fits best with your character’s role, and then playing along with that role throughout the rest of the story. If the character that you’ve created is more scientific, then by all means go with the scientific route. However, if you believe your character is more of the warrior-soldier type, then feel free to set up a military outpost.

No matter which decision you choose to go with, the side mission Sleeping Dragons will be triggered, and several protestors (they vary depending on your choice) will set up shop in the Nexus’ Hydroponics area. We already have a complete guide on how to complete Sleeping Dragons and get rid of the protestors, so feel free to check that out for additional help on that quest.

The outpost type that you choose will also determine some of the things that you hear from the various “leaders” of the Andromeda Initiative. For instance, Kandros, the head of security on the Nexus, isn’t very happy with your decision to choose science over military (if you go that route), and he lets you know it in a meeting after you return to the Nexus. Small things like this affect how NPCs see your Pathfinder, but overall they hold no true depth in the main storyline.

Now that you know how to decide which outpost to build, and what the consequences are, head back over to our Mass Effect: Andromeda game hub for additional help and guides. We also have a complete guide to the best Pathfinder builds, which you should check out if you want to see which abilities work best for your playstyle.
