Key Takeaways from the Season 1 Diablo 4 Developer Stream

I sifted through the colonoscopy jokes for your reading pleasure.

Yesterday’s Developer Stream regarding Diablo 4 mainly focused on the game’s first Season – Season of the Malignant – but there were a few other notable mentions as well, including a Q&A session. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights for a better idea of what’s in store for the ever-evolving new platform Blizzard have created.

Due to the nature of the stream being a bit scattered outside the planned announcement of the Season, I’ll be putting the major takeaways in a bulleted format. This list excludes information regarding Season 1 mechanics and story beats – you can read all about the Season of the Malignant mechanics right here!

What’s Coming to Diablo 4 in Season 1

What’s Coming in Season of the Malignant

  • 7 new Legendary Aspects and 6 new Uniques
  • New bosses
  • A “chonker” balance patch going live on July 18 (dev’s choice of words, not mine)
  • The Seasonal Battle Pass – this includes cosmetics and free-track upgrades to Seasonal progression like gold find and experience gain. Upgrades are bought with the free-track exclusive Smoldering Ashes currency
  • Fog of war on the map and Altars of Lilith remain unlocked for all characters after Season of the Malignant (including Seasonal characters)
  • The Scroll of Amnesia will be added, which allows a total reset to all character attributes. One of these can be earned as part of the Seasonal Journey

What’s Coming in the Future

  • Stash space improvements: to quote the developers, “We have big plans… More space in the future.”
  • Some Seasonal mechanics may be added to the game in the future if they’re successful and avoid excessive bloat and imbalance

That’s about it as far as big takeaways go outside the Season of the Malignant news. The Seasonal mechanic of Malignant Hearts looks interesting, but time will tell if there’s a decent amount of new endgame content for us to rip through with these powerful new abilities.
