Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel thrusts you into intense raids with the objective of slaying the giant at the end of it. While each playable class comes with unique abilities, you can also call upon the favor of the Norse gods to unleash their divine powers during the raid. However, not all gods offer equally devastating abilities, which is why this guide highlights the 12 best god skills you need to know in Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel.

12. Divine Wave

In Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, Divine Wave is one of Freya’s best crowd-controlling skills that empowers your character to deal damage and push enemies back with a powerful knockback effect. This ability unleashes pulsating lightning in a six-radius area, inflicting seven damage per pulse at intervals of 0.5 seconds, while consistently repelling enemies in its range.
As you upgrade Divine Wave, its radius expands, and the damage increases significantly. You can level up god skills by earning experience points through Experience Crystals, which are the blue crystal orbs you collect by defeating enemies.
The Divine Wave skill reaches its full potential when you unlock its Evolved version through Freya’s skill tree. Unlocking this upgrade requires 3 skill points, and there are no prerequisites. Once you evolve Divine Wave (typically at level 4) during the raid, it is nearly impossible for minions to get close to you.
The evolved Divine Wave creates a constant, rapidly pulsating radius around your character, damaging and pushing back waves of enemies during raids. It is especially effective on Insane difficulty, where relentless hordes of minions and archers swarm you.
11. Flammable Wall

Flammable Wall is one of Loki’s area-control skills in Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel. At levels 1, 2, and 3, it is relatively weak and does not hold up well in sustaining damage to foes.
However, once upgraded to its Evolved form, Flammable Wall transforms into a devastating ability capable of quickly annihilating enemies.
At the base levels, this skill creates a small tear in the ground that releases poisonous gas in a straight line. The gas ignites shortly after, causing an explosive effect and dealing moderate damage. While this works adequately during the first few minutes of a raid, it becomes insufficient as larger waves of enemies swarm you.
When upgraded to its Evolved version, Flammable Wall covers a 5×5-meter square area, making it far more effective for crowd control. The poisonous gas now deals 27 damage per second, and after a 4-second delay, it ignites in a massive explosion, dealing an additional 35 damage.
The skill’s 6-second cooldown is reasonable, allowing for frequent use. While Flammable Wall has great potential in its Evolved state, its early levels could benefit from balancing to make it a more viable option during the initial stages of a raid. With some tweaks, this skill could become one of Loki’s most powerful abilities in the game, but as of now, it is weak.
10. Golden Discs

Golden Discs is another one of Freya’s abilities, offering less crowd-control potential compared to Divine Wave but delivering significantly higher damage. The skill starts with a single disc that fires in the direction you are aiming, effortlessly slicing through multiple minions in its path.
As you level up Golden Discs, its damage increases, and additional discs are added, making it even more effective. The skill auto-casts in the direction you’re targeting, which is particularly useful when dealing with waves of enemies. If you are overwhelmed by a dense enemy formation, the discs can carve a path, allowing you to push through with ease.
When upgraded to its Evolved version, Golden Discs becomes a formidable god-tier ability. To evolve it, you will first need to unlock it from the skill shop and then level it up to the max during a raid. At this stage, the skill fires three discs with 20 primary damage and 20 secondary damage each. While the discs have a 1-meter radius, their 8-meter range is more than enough to cut through hordes of enemies, clearing the way as you move forward.
The skill’s base cooldown is 4 seconds, but passive upgrades can reduce this further, allowing the discs to auto-cast in quick succession. With proper upgrades, Golden Discs can become an essential tool for managing damage and movement during chaotic battles.
9. Valkyrie Descent

The standout feature of Valkyrie Descent from Freya’s skill tree is its ability to apply powerful debuffs to enemies.
While the skill does inflict solid damage through divine energy fields created by a Valkyrie, the real value of this skill lies in the debuffs it delivers. Inflicted enemies get slower attack and move speed.
At levels 1, 2, and 3, the skill is underwhelming. The energy fields are created randomly, making it difficult to use effectively in most scenarios. However, once you upgrade to the Evolved version, Valkyrie Descent truly shines. At this level, it generates four energy fields, making it an excellent choice for handling the intense waves of enemies found on Hard or Insane difficulties.
The Evolved version comes with a 100% chance to slow enemies, significantly reducing their movement speed while also dealing damage. With a 2-second cooldown, this skill triggers so frequently it feels almost continuous, allowing you to slow and chip away at crowds with ease.
If you are looking for a skill that combines damage with crowd control, Valkyrie Descent is a must-have for tougher battles.
8. Sentinel

By default, the Sentinel ability from Thor’s skill tree does not appear as a pickable option during raids in Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel. To unlock it, you will need to spend skill points, and only then will it become available for selection. We highly recommended to save at least 6 skill points—enough to unlock the base skill and its Evolved version.
Sentinel summons a powerful construct that zaps nearby enemies within its range. Each auto-cast lasts for 3 seconds, dealing 35 base damage within a 5-meter radius. The skill has a 9-second cooldown, which can feel lengthy, especially when you are in dire need of sustained damage support.
The true potential of Sentinel is unlocked when you upgrade it to its Evolved version. At this level, the cooldown is completely removed, and the Sentinel zaps enemies at 0.4-second intervals.
While the damage and range remain the same, the constant presence of a Sentinel by your side makes a huge difference. Each zap delivers reliable damage, quickly thinning out enemy numbers.
Although Sentinel lacks strong crowd control, it excels at maintaining consistent pressure on enemy hordes. No matter where you move, the Sentinel will spawn nearby, providing invaluable support in keeping foes at bay.
7. Mjolnir

Mjolnir functions similarly to Freya’s Golden Discs ability, but instead of disc projectiles, Thor’s iconic weapon is fired. This skill auto-casts in the direction of your attack, hurling Mjolnir at enemies for devastating effect.
Mjolnir deals raw damage to its targets and has a chance to apply a shock status effect, adding even more utility to this god skill. It is particularly effective against smaller, insect-like enemies, making it one of the best tools for clearing out swarms in Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel.

When upgraded to its Evolved version, Mjolnir becomes a powerhouse. After unlocking it from the Skill Shop, the Evolved skill delivers 40 damage, a 5-meter explosion radius, and a 9-meter range. Once activated, Mjolnir lasts for 5 seconds before entering a 4-second cooldown.
While the cooldown might feel long compared to other Evolved abilities, Mjolnir’s higher damage and the chance to apply the shock effect make it a viable option. The cooldown also keeps the ability balanced; if it fired continuously, it would make clearing hordes or taking down elite enemies far too easy.
6. Lightning Strike

Lightning Strike is another best god skill from Thor’s skill tree. Thor, in general, has some of the best offensive abilities in Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, with each skill tailored to specific scenarios rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
Lightning Strike excels at damaging crowds approaching from multiple angles. This skill fires an X-shaped lightning pattern, with your character at the center. Any enemy that comes into contact with the lightning is likely to be eliminated, especially smaller foes. Elite enemies take significant damage as well, although positioning yourself to maximize its impact can be a bit tricky.
The real power of Lightning Strike shines when you upgrade it to its Evolved version. At this level, the skill gains zero cooldown, meaning it fires continuously within a 1-meter radius, dealing 24 damage in four fixed directions. The X-shaped pattern is especially effective for handling enemies approaching from these angles, making it a reliable tool for crowd control.
However, the fixed directions of the lightning strikes can sometimes leave gaps, allowing a few enemies to slip through, as it is not a circular AoE ability. Despite this limitation, the frequent auto-casting and consistent damage allow you to eliminate enemies rapidly as you move through waves of foes.
5. Jormungandr

Jormungandr is one of those god skills that become powerful only at the Evolved level. At levels 1, 2, and 3, this skill summons both the fire and venomous forms of the World Serpent, releasing spinning flames and toxic gas in a 360-degree radius, but the overall skill impact is somewhat lackluster during the raid.
However, when upgraded to its Evolved form, Jormungandr becomes much better. The skill’s cooldown drops to just 3 seconds, with a 5-meter range, allowing it to dish out consistent damage in a wide area. At this level, it becomes far more effective, making it a worthwhile pick for raids.
If you are a player who enjoys sticking to Loki’s skill tree, Jormungandr is a much better choice than Parasite, which we believe is the weakest god skill in Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel—even at its Evolved version.
4. Ball Lightning

Ball Lightning is one of the top enemy-seeking abilities in Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel. When auto-cast, it summons a lightning orb that seeks out nearby enemies within a specific range and direction.
At levels 1 and 2, Ball Lightning feels somewhat underwhelming, especially when compared to high-impact skills like Thunderstorm. However, the skill shines the best when you upgrade this to its Evolved version.
The upgraded Lightning Ball grows larger, moves erratically, and not only targets multiple enemies but also unleashes chain lightning strikes.
At the Evolved level, Ball Lightning deals 25 primary damage and 10 secondary damage, while targeting up to 4 enemies before triggering its cooldown. The cooldown itself is just 1.5 seconds, which, in the heat of battle, makes it feel like the Lightning Ball is constantly active. You will see it zapping foes one after another, clearing a path through enemy waves as you advance.
While Ball Lightning is not ideal for crowd control, it excels at eliminating single targets, especially elite enemies. Since the skill auto-casts in the direction you are aiming, it is perfect for focusing on elites—the ones with the red health bars—allowing you to deal concentrated damage and quickly take them down.
3. Local Ragnarok

If you are searching for the most powerful and high-damage god skill in Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, look no further than Local Ragnarok. However, there is a significant trade-off: this skill comes with the longest cooldown in the game, meaning you will need to wait before it auto-casts again.
By default, Local Ragnarok is not available in your active skill pool during raids. To unlock it, you will first need to access Odin’s skill tree in the Skill Shop. We recommend saving at least 6 skill points to unlock both the skill and its Evolved version. This ensures that when Local Ragnarok appears during the raid, you will have the resources to upgrade it to level 4.
This skill creates a massive AoE that radiates outward from your character in a circular wave. At level 1, it deals 500 damage, instantly eliminating all non-elite enemies on contact. However, the cooldowns are lengthy—55 seconds at level 1, reducing to 50 seconds at level 2 and 45 seconds at level 3. While these cooldowns are significant, the power it delivers makes it worth the wait.
When upgraded to level 4, Local Ragnarok becomes a one-shot skill. It deals a staggering 700 damage, stuns elite enemies, and lasts for 10 seconds. While it won’t one-shot elites with full health, it can wipe out all non-elites in its radius and leave the rest vulnerable. The cooldown at this level drops to 40 seconds, making it more manageable in heated battles.
Choosing Local Ragnarok as one of your three god skills for a run does come with risks, particularly because of its long cooldown. However, the payoff is enormous—every time it activates, you can count on it to clear the battlefield and give you breathing room.
2. Gambanteinn

While Local Ragnarok may be the highest damage ability in Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, skills like Gambanteinn are essential for maintaining consistent damage output and keeping pressure on enemies. This ability summons Freya’s magical sword, which delivers a powerful strike and has a chance to inflict the burn status effect on foes.
When upgraded to its Evolved form, Gambanteinn boasts a 35% chance to apply the burn effect. While not every class benefits from enemy debuffs, this skill is particularly valuable for players using the Seeress class. To maximize its potential, select the Witch subclass when you reach level 11, then reroll your god skills to unlock Freya’s Gambanteinn.
With burn and other debuffs applied, the Witch subclass gains 30% more damage, and the duration of all debuffs is increased by 50%, making this combination a devastating choice for sustained damage in any raid.
1. Thunderstorm

Thunderstorm is hands down the most powerful god skill in Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel. When it comes to crowd control combined with high damage output, no other skill comes close to this one.
Even at levels 1, 2, and 3, Thunderstorm’s random lightning strikes activate every few seconds, making it invaluable for thinning out enemy hordes before they can close the gap and overwhelm you. While larger enemies or tougher minions might survive Thor’s lightning, they will be significantly weakened, allowing you to finish them off with just a few hits.

The skill truly shines when you unlock its Evolved version from the Skill Shop and upgrade it to level 4 during a raid. At this point, Thunderstorm becomes a devastating force, transforming from smaller, scattered lightning strikes into a single, concentrated thunderstrike with a 4-meter radius.
This evolved Thunderstorm is a focused Area of Effect (AoE) ability that deals 45 damage and auto-casts every 2 seconds. The rapid strikes obliterate waves of minions and deal heavy damage to elite enemies, making this skill capable of carrying you through an entire run, even on Normal or Hard difficulty.
If you want to dominate the raid in Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, make Thunderstorm a priority in your skill pool during raids. This one skill alone can turn the tide of any encounter and make you unstoppable.
