Stormgate is out now on PC through Steam for players who purchased the Early Access DLC pack ahead of its free-to-play release later in August 2024. Even though a lot of RTS releases have been released on consoles in the past, Stormgate is exclusive to PC, which has some drawbacks. However, can Stormgate be played on the Steam Deck? Here is everything you need to know.

Is Stormgate Playable on the Steam Deck?

Yes, Stormage is playable on the Steam Deck, but it isn’t an optimal experience due to the lack of controller support.

This is an RTS title, so it’s a good idea to plug in a mouse, at least if you’re planning to play on the Steam Deck. When it comes to performance, you’ll want to switch to the Low preset to ensure a reasonable experience that stays in the higher 50s and even 60 FPS at times. However, the moment you pan the camera, there is a major drop to the 15-25 range. It’s only for a few milliseconds, but it’s very noticeable.

As someone who played a lot of RTS titles growing up, I really can’t recommend playing this, even with the layout of the controls that Steam Input provides. If you absolutely have to play it on the Steam Deck, then using a mouse and keyboard is almost necessary. We don’t think controller support is going to be added anytime soon, which means that your experience on the Steam Deck will be limited, and the title won’t receive a verified status from Valve.

Does Stormgate Have Steam Cloud Support?

No, Stormgate does not have Steam Cloud support, and your settings from your PC won’t carry over to the Steam Deck.

We hope that some form of support for the handheld device is planned in the future. Even though Stormgate aims to be a competitive title where keyboard and mouse will always be the preferred devices, there is a campaign aspect as well, which shouldn’t be too hard to get through with the right controller support.
