As one of the most highly-anticipated games of 2023, Starfield has flocks of eager players hopping on PC and Xbox consoles to determine if it’s worth the hype. What about all the PlayStation fans, though? Will Starfield launch on any PS platforms, or is it destined to stay on Xbox and PC for the years to come? To learn more, continue reading to discover whether Starfield is an Xbox-exclusive game.
Is Starfield Xbox Exclusive?
Yes, Starfield will launch exclusively to PC and Xbox Series X|S. Following Microsoft’s acquisition of ZeniMax Media in 2021, Bethesda’s parent company, it shifted from nearly being a PlayStation-exclusive to Xbox. In short, if you plan to hop on Starfield following its September 2023 release, you must choose to play on PC or an Xbox console. Otherwise, the chances of a PlayStation release are slim for now.

Another reason is the challenges of developing a game for multiple platforms. As Bethesda’s Pete Hines discussed during the Microsoft-FTC court case, Starfield being an Xbox exclusive is beneficial, as it allows the development team to focus on polishing the game’s quality on fewer platforms. If they split their time between Xbox and PlayStation, the entire process would be slower, resulting in more delays or, potentially, a lower-quality game.
Regardless of the reasoning, Starfield will remain a PC and Xbox exclusive for now, with no public plans to branch out to other platforms. While this means its chances of a polished release are higher, anyone looking to play on PlayStation will not see it launch on it for some time, if at all.
Starfield will be available on September 6, 2023, on PC and Xbox Series X|S. To learn more about the game, check out how much file space Starfield will take up, or click the game tag below to browse our growing content collection!
