How to Use the Hydroelectric Turbine in Subnautica 2

Moving from a Solar Panel-powered base to a Hydroelectric Turbine one is a crucial step to your progression in Subnautica 2. Solar Panels just don’t offer enough power for your habitat, making the switch almost mandatory.
It is hard to make the switch, especially when you try to connect the turbine to your base and it doesn’t work. Here’s a guide on everything you need to know about powering your base with Hydroelectric Turbines in Subnautica 2.
How to Power Your Base Using Hydroelectric Turbines in Subnautica 2


The first step to powering your base with Hydroelectric Turbines is to gather the materials needed to craft them, including the Power Transmitters (assuming you already have the blueprints for these, since you are already here).
A Hydroelectric Turbine needs 3x Titanium, 3x Copper, and 3x Silver each, while the Power Transmitter needs 1x Titanium and 1x Copper each.
I suggest grabbing enough materials to craft at least 3 Hydroelectric Turbines, so you don’t have to do this often. Silver will be the hardest to farm here, but if you have the Scanning Station up, they should be easy to find. The number of Power Transmitters you need depends solely on how far the base you want to power is from the nearest available current source, which is our next step.
You’ll want to find the nearest current to your base. These look like a wide, light-blue (dark blue at night) wave that pushes you through when you get near it. It could be hard to find because you really can’t track or scan these currents at this point. You just have to remember some of these points when you explore, since at this point, you have probably explored a lot already.
Once you have found your current, grab the materials needed to craft the Hydroelectric Turbines and Power Transmitter. You’ll have to manually have the materials in your inventory because you can’t use your stored resources when outside the base. It might be a good idea to bring a Portable Locker just in case you need to craft extra Power Transmitters.
Next, bring out your Habitat Builder and construct the Hydroelectric Turbines on the current. You’ll see a number on top of the Hydroelectric Turbine, which will be either “0” or “12.” If it says “0,” it isn’t placed on the current. Place the turbine when it shows 12 and turns green. Place as many Hydroelectric Turbines as you can on the current.
Now, you want to connect the Hydroelectric Turbines to your base using the Power Transmitter.
How to Connect the Power Transmitter to the Base in Subnautica 2
Construct a Power Transmitter within the range of the Hydroelectric Turbines and lead it to your base. The range isn’t that far, so you might need multiple Power Transmitters for this. Before constructing each Power Transmitter, you’ll see a blue line connecting it from the turbines.
Connect each Power Transmitter by ensuring each piece has a blue line connecting one point to the other. Keep building until you reach the base. It doesn’t matter if the Power Transmitter is just floating in the middle of nothing – it should still snap in place when constructed.
Now, when you reach your base, this is where it gets tricky.


Enter construction mode and pick the Power Transmitter. Enable the snapping feature and make sure it snaps to the inside of your habitat or any corridor connected to the whole habitat.
If you don’t enable snapping and you place the Power Transmitter overlapping the structure or corridor, it still doesn’t work. It is as if the Power Transmitter is being placed as a separate structure, even when it overlaps with the corridor.
When you enable the snapping feature, it’ll snap to the corridor, and it looks like the rod will overlap through the corridor, but it won’t be visibly seen. It’ll just connect to the roof. Make sure you are counting your power since each Hydroelectric Turbine should give you 12 energy per second. You can see your total power in the upper-left corner of your screen while you are inside your base.
