How to Use Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring

In Elden Ring, Spirit Ashes are a way to give yourself a small leg up during specific fights, without having to activate multiplayer. These skills use a huge chunk of FP and are only usable in specific locations, but they can help a ton. You can also upgrade them, making your Spirit Ashes like a weird, ghastly Pokemon team.

To unlock Spirit Ashes, you need the Spirit Calling Bell. You get this by meeting Renna at the Church of Elleh. She’s a bright, blue witch so she’s hard to miss. That said, she only shows up at night, and won’t appear at all until you meet Milena. Renna will give you the bell, and also a Spirit to get you started.

As an aside, if you don’t encounter Renna you can also buy the Spirit Calling Bell at the Roundtable Hold. But you should just talk to Renna, frankly.

To use your Spirit Ashes, you need to be in certain spaces, such as a boss room. You can assign individual Spirits to your pouch, but only one can be summoned at a time. If you aren’t sure about when or where you can summon, they’ll be lit up in your pouch if usable.

Finding new Spirit Ashes is about the same as finding anything else in Elden Ring. They can be found on corpses, as rewards, so on and so forth. You can also level them up, but that’s for another guide.
