Ashes of War

Elden Ring: How to Use Ashes of War

Elden Ring is filled with a lot of different systems, from magic to spirit summons, to Ashes of War. It can be a little overwhelming trying to use all of these systems together to thwarts the enemies in your path. Ashes of War are incredibly useful and using them can turn the tide of battle. Here is how to use Ashes of War in Elden Ring.

Ashes of War are used by hitting or holding the left trigger. If you’re two handing a weapon the weapon equipped will use its Ash of war, but if you’re dual-wielding or using a shield hitting the left trigger will proc the left hand’s Ash of War.

To add Ashes of War to your weapon either rest at a Site of Grace or go to Master Hewg the Blacksmith in the Roundtable Hold. Not every Ash of War will work with every weapon, some experimentation will be required.

If you start out with a shield this will most likely be your parry button. If you two-hand your weapon it could be something more powerful like the Barboric Scream Ash fo War that gives you more power and turns your charged attacks into a combo.

You’ll find Ashes of War all over the world of Elden Ring and mixing and matching different ones on your weapons will give you more versatility in how you handle situations. Maybe try adding a ranged attack to your sword to help provide some space in a fight.
