Buildin' a dispenser he- wait this isn't TF2.

When playing through Remnant 2, chances are you’ll be on the hunt for some of the secrets the world hides away. These can be small things like an extra couple of enemies to face off against, but can grow as big as being an entire Archetype with its own set of skills and perks to master. One such Archetype is great for those who like having a mechanical buddy along for the ride. Here’s how to unlock the secret Engineer Archetype in Remnant 2.

Where to Find the Engineer Archetype in Remnant 2

The Engineer Archetype is one of the hardest characters to find in Remnant 2. To find it, you’ll want to progress through the N’Erud section of Remnant 2 until you reach either the Timeless Horizon or the Eon Vault. Once you make it there, begin exploring the edges of the map (without stepping straight into the fog and dying) until you spot an opening between a large rock and some spikes. If you’re struggling to find it, you can either use our image above or use the Explorer’s Treasure Hunter ability (its third ability) to locate it.

Once you find the spot, you’ll want to put on as light of armor as you can. This is going to have to be done fast, since the fog is likely to kill you before you can make it back out. Once ready, run in and quickly jump the gap toward the Technician armor set and snag that, then quickly drop off the left of it and snag the Alien Device. By this point the poison is likely to kill you, but it’s not a big deal if you die. You’ll still keep both items.

What Does the Engineer Class Do?

Before we go over skills and perks, it’s important to note that all of the skills rely on a resource called Heavy Ammo. This resource regenerates by 1.22% every second, with Heavy Weapons only being deployable if 25% ammo is available. This is visible through a very thin bar above the Engineer ability in the bottom left. With that covered, here are all skills and perks for the Engineer.

  • Prime Perk (only applied when the Engineer is the Prime Archetype)
    • High Tech – Holding the Skill button will Overclock a Carried or Deployed Heavy Weapon. Overclocking grants Infinite Ammo, increased Fire Rate, and a 25% Damage increase for 15s.
  • Skills
    • Heavy Weapon: Vulcan – Press to deploy a Vulcan Cannon Turret which lasts until its Ammo is exhausted. Turrets that can aim will prioritize targets that the player Aims at. Press Skill again to enable autonomous targeting. Hold to deploy into Heavy Carry Mode. If Engineer Prime is available, will Overclock the weapon if already in hand or on the battlefield. Double press to reclaim the weapon, returning 75% of the remaining ammo.
    • Heavy Weapon: Flamethrower – Press to deploy a Flamethrower Turret which lasts until its ammo is exhausted.
    • Heavy Weapon: Impact Cannon – Press to deploy an Impact Cannon Turret which lasts until its ammo is exhausted.
  • Perks
    • Surplus – Using a Relic refills 15% of Heavy Weapon Ammo. Bonus is doubled when Heavy Weapon is stowed.
    • Heavy Mobility – Movement Speed while Carrying a Heavy Weapon is increased by 35%.
    • Magnetic Field – Heavy Weapons grant 15% Damage Reduction to all allies within 2.5m.
    • Metalworker – Increases Skill Damage by 5%. Heavy Weapons gain 5% Ammo Capacity and 2.5% Max Health.

If you’re a big fan of the Engineer from Team Fortress 2 or Torbjorn from Overwatch, then this Archetype is the one for you. You can even use the turrets as handheld weapons if you want to get your hands dirty yourself. It’s a great class to toy around with, especially for fans of the Handler Archetype.
