When you start to reach the late-game part of Diablo 4, the Helltide events will be one of the most lucrative ways to farm Legendary items and fresh glyphs. However, starting them isn’t immediately obvious, which is why I’m here to outline how is started my first Helltide event and how they operate. Here’s how to start Helltide Events in Diablo 4.
How to Unlock Helltide Events in Diablo 4
To start Helltide Events, you must reach World Tier 3 and then head to Kyovashad when the tide rolls in. When you are exploring Sanctuary on World Tier 3 or 4, the Helltides will start every couple of hours on random sections of the map. If you haven’t participated in one before, then you will get a Priority Quest that takes you to Kyovashad.
The quest is called “The Helltide Rises” and you simply need to speak with Doomsayer Priya in Kyovashad. After speaking with her, I was given a few slides about how the event works and what the main objective is. In essence, you need to collect as many Cinders as possible to spend on chests within the zone. You can lose half of them upon death and you only have a limited time to spend them.

Nearly every chest in the affected zone will contain some kind of Legendary item. I have pulled 8 Legendaries out of every 10 chests I open. So you can still get bad loot, but it’s not common.
Where to Find the Helltide in Diablo 4
Helltide Events will spawn randomly in Sanctuary, but I encountered my first one in the Northshore of Scosglen. In general, the event floods three connected sub-regions with plenty of enemies and blood. Where the event will take place is randomized, but I have seen them appear on the western side of the map in Diablo 4 most of the time.
When a Helltide starts, you have exactly one hour to collect all the Cinders you need before the tide leaves. While you are in the tide, you can even get Fiend Roses, which become an important ingredient later on in the game, so don’t miss out.
