How to Respec Passive Skill Points in Path of Exile 2

Anyone missing those Orb of Regrets?

Path of Exile 2’s passive skill tree will always be intimidating to players, even for veterans. New players will get pressured to choose the right skill points because there are so many paths, while veterans are also planning ahead with their build, doing a massive passive skill restructure in the future, knowing it isn’t going to be free. Here’s how to respect your passive skill points in Path of Exile 2.

How to Respec Your Passive Skills in Path of Exile 2

Upon starting the campaign in Act 1, you will already have access to refunding passive skills, but it comes at a price. In the Clearfell Encampment, which is the main town in Act 1, you’ll come across “The Hooded One.” This mysterious figure is already a key part of the story but also acts as an NPC in the town, giving you access to refund your passive points and identify items. Identifying items with the Hooded One is free, but refunding your passive points will cost gold.

When you interact with the Hooded One and you select “Refund Passives,” it’ll open up your passive skill tree. You can start removing passive skill points by selecting the passive skills you no longer want. You have to start with the farthest passive skill points as you’ll go through them individually.

When you respec a passive skill point, the cost will show on the bottom of your screen, as well as your available gold. Hovering over the passive skill points will also show how much it costs to respec. They should all cost the same.

If you have ascended your class and plan on respeccing Ascendancy points, you can also do that, but it’ll cost 5x more than the baseline.

The cost of respeccing is purely based on your level, so having a higher level means that you’ll pay more for each respec point. In a way, they don’t cost more because you also gain more gold when you progress further into the game. Overall, the respec system is going to be costly, so avoid respecing constantly.

Can You Respec Your Ascendancy Class in Path of Exile 2?

Respeccing your Ascendancy points might be a thing, but changing your Ascendancy class isn’t possible in Path of Exile 2… yet. There is no reason to doubt that Grinding Gear Games will add an Ascendancy class respec in the future, as Path of Exile had one.

However, since the game is still in early access and they only released 66% of their planned Ascendancies, they might still be thinking of a system to do this. In the first game, players just needed to run another Labyrinth run to respec their Ascendancy class. Labyrinth has been replaced with the Trial of Chaos and the Trial of the Sekhemas but with a Forbidden Sanctum mechanic instead. This might have led them to find another way to let players respec their Ascendancy, and they don’t have it yet.

Players will just have to create a new character for now.
