How to Recruit the Hag (Auntie Ethel) for the Final Fight in Baldur’s Gate 3

Who doesn’t love a good hag? They’re green balls of mischief who mostly spend their time bringing about Monkey Paw-style wishes, stealing babies, and dropping the best one-liners in Faerun. But did you know it’s possible to bring the full force of Auntie Ethel’s wicked magic against the Absolute in the final fight?

Here’s how to do it.

First, in Act 1, you’ll need to encounter Auntie Ethel. She’s in the Riverside Teahouse at the very bottom of the map, south of the Blighted Village. This teahouse is at the coordinates X: 61, Y:262. Once you’ve found her, you’ll need to let her keep Mayrina and, consequently, her baby.

It’s as easy as that.

The next step will take place in Act 3. Once you’re in Act 3, head to the Lower City and make a b-line to the Basilisk Gate Barracks immediately north of the Basilisk Gate waypoint. Head inside and you’ll find a red-headed woman name Lora begging the guards to find her child.

Agree to help Lora, then make your way to the Blushing Mermaid. There, speak to Captain Grisly about the case. Captain Grisly will tell you that Lora is crazy and asks you to kill her for her.

Go find Lora and kill her. Return to Captain Gristly and tell her you’ve fulfilled your end of the bargain and Captain Gristly will reveal her true form — the Hag. The Hag will admit she stole Lora’s child, and now she’s incubating her in her stomach. Eventually, she’ll give “birth” to the child, who will have transformed into a hag.

You can then strike a deal with the Hag to let her keep the child. If you do, the Hag will come to your aid in the final fight.

And, fun fact, she’ll even write you a letter that you’ll receive in the epilogue. Here’s what the letter says if you’re curious:

“Hello petal,

I gave birth to Vanra – or Auntie Vanra, I should say. She fought me the whole way, too, bless her. I told her all about you, and she can’t wait to meet her new godparent.

Gosh, they grow up so fast, don’t they?

Between her, and Mayrina’s brat, I have myself a nice little coven. We’re laying low for now, of course – I don’t want my girls getting overwhelmed too soon. But in time, they’ll make their debut, and the Sisters of the Seeing Pearl will be whole once more.

And it’s all because of you.

Lots of love,

Auntie Ethel

P.S., I’ve been alive for a very ,very long time, and I have only one regret – that I didn’t climb you like a tree when I had the chance x”
