Minthara is easily one of the best companions in Baldur’s Gate 3, and now you can have her in your party and keep the tieflings alive. Here’s how to recruit Minthara without killing the Tieflings in BG3.
BG3: How to Recruit Minthara Without Attacking the Grove
I love Minthara. She’s a multi-faceted character with depth, a sharp tongue, and a dry sense of humor. Never mind some interesting cut scenes. But originally, there were only two ways to recruit her. By siding with her and raiding the Emerald Grove or by using a mod to recruit her instantly without any muss or fuss.
But now, it’s possible to recruit Minthara without killing the tieflings in the Emerald Grove.
How to Recruit Minthara Without Killing the Tieflings
To recruit Minthara, you need to knock her out while clearing out the Goblin Camp.
When you first encounter Minthara in the Goblin Camp, you must not speak to her.
Change your attack in your hotbar to “Non-Lethal Damage.” You can select this option by going to your passives and pressing the button with a picture of a person getting bonked with a hammer. This will prevent you from killing Minthara.
Next, approach Minthara and attack her. I highly recommend that you do not use magic attacks to deal the final blow, as this can outright kill her. Complete the rest of the Goblin Camp by killing the other leaders, then return to the Emerald Grove and continue the campaign as normal.
Minthara will then make her appearance in Moonrise Tower during Act 2.
An Alternate Way to Recruit Minthara
You can also turn Minthara hostile towards you by stealing in front of her. But you can’t speak to her and reject her deal, or try to knock her unconscious by agreeing to raid the Grove and subsequently knocking her out there. Doing so will prevent her from showing up at Moonrise Towers.
Once you meet her at Moonrise Tower, you can recruit her and have both Halsin and Minthara at her party. Unfortunately, they’ll be sharing a tent. But Halsin’s surely used to sharing tents with drows.
Steps to Recruit Minthara Peacefully in BG3, Summarized
When you find Minthara in the Goblin Camp, it’s crucial not to engage in conversation if you want to recruit her and spare the Tieflings. Instead, change the attack to “Non-Lethal Damage” in the hotbar, preventing accidental killing. Approach Minthara and attack her, avoiding magic for the final blow. After dealing with the Goblin Camp leaders, return to the Emerald Grove to continue the campaign. Minthara will reappear in Moonrise Tower during Act 2. Another option is turning Minthara hostile by stealing in front of her, ensuring she appears later at Moonrise Tower for recruitment alongside Halsin.
