How to Prevent Whymzelett from Taking Flight When Using Soothing Breeze in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Once you’ve slapped the button on the Batteryhill Tower, you’ll find that a new fiend will pop up on your map in Junon. This fiend is the Whymzelett, and it’s a variant of your standard Zemzelett. But its proximity to a lifespring has made it so that the Whymzelett can heal its wounds using Soothing Breeze.

While that’s annoying enough, to ensure that you knock out all of Chadley and MIA’s combat challenges, you’ll need to stop Whymzelett from taking flight when it uses Soothing Breeze. And doing that requires two steps.

First, attack Whymzelett to build up your ABT gauge. Build up your ATB for as many party members as possible by using the left and right buttons on your d-pad to switch party members.

Once you see the red banner over a Whymzelett that says Soothing Breeze, pressing the square button will let you pull up your abilities. This will significantly slow down the battle and allow you to select your next attack.

Use Ice or any ranged attack like Barret’s Maximum Fury to do as much damage as possible to the bird before it takes flight. While Ice attacks are ideal, as they exploit the Whymzelett’s weakness, any high damage attack will do the trick. If there are two Whymzelett alive, keep an eye on both and be conservative with your ATB gauge to ensure you always have enough firepower to break the Whymzelett’s concentration on the attack.

Fortunately, if you successfully attack a Whymzelett while it’s attempting to use Soothing Breeze, you will pressure it. This makes it easier to stagger and easier to take out.

But Junon has plenty of other weird birds and things to do. Why not check out this nearby cache, or find out what meat’s best for feeding the resident condor?
