A lot of the updates usually run on schedule prompts that notify you it’s best to go ahead and download part of the resources with the rest released during the maintenance period. Here’s how you can save yourself time waiting for Honkai: Star Rail to update by preinstalling for your PC or mobile device early.
How to Preinstall the Game Updates on PC for Honkai: Star Rail
As mentioned before, Hoyoverse is really good at keeping the game updated, so logging in 24 hours ahead of the day the game is scheduled to release a new version will actually prompt the game to ask if the player would like to update the launcher. This will take a short time to load in the launcher but, once it’s done, you’ll have an additional option before you can opt to play the game.Â
Once the launcher is ready to go, you’ll have an extra option just beside the ‘Play’ button. An icon in the shape of a cloud very similar to the iCloud icon will not appear and give you the option to preinstall resources for the game so it’s set for the final update. Clicking this icon will begin the preinstallation, but luckily you don’t have to sit here and stare at it.
You can continue by clicking the Play button and running the game as normal since the preinstallation will continue running in the background. And you can consider yourself set for the game to enter maintenance and come out with the new version.
How to Preinstall the Game Updates on Mobile Devices and Tablets for Honkai: Star Rail
Normally, you are able to preinstall for other Hoyoverse games such as Genshin Impact and Honkai Impact 3rd, but it wouldn’t be the first time that the configurations for Star Rail are a bit lacking in comparison to its sister games. So, is there a way to preinstall for mobile devices? Actually, no.
The game may not be big enough yet for it to require a preinstallation or that option isn’t available for mobile. There haven’t been any updates thus far for either mobile or tablet devices. In the future, we can likely expect this to appear in the menu under settings. But for now, it looks like preinstallation is only available for pc users.
