How to Overcome Fear of the Dark in The Sims 4

There are a few ways the fear of the dark can manifest in your Sims. This fear often appears in child Sims while they’re sleeping, especially if they encounter monsters under their bed frequently, but adult Sims can also develop this. If you run into scary situations outside at night, particularly with the Occult, Werewolves or anything that strikes fear, your adult Sims may also start fearing the dark. Thankfully, there are two main ways to counter this.

Going Outside While Confident

While your Sims fear the dark, they’ll be struck with a scared moodlet that, if coupled with other fears, can leave them terrified. You’ll have to use various methods, such as psyching yourself up in a mirror, brushing your teeth or conquering other fears, to raise your mood and be confident. You can also purchase a confident potion from the Aspiration shop for 200 points.

Once your Sim becomes confident, wait until nighttime before heading outside! By being confident during the night, your Sim will face their fear head-on and combat it. However, it’s worth noting that this doesn’t always work, resulting in your Sim getting another scared moodlet instead. In a situation like this, you may have to resort to using a Fear-Be-Gone potion.

Drinking a Fear-Be-Gone Potion

Fear-Be-Gone potions are a way to quickly eliminate fears without going through the complicated process of overcoming it. While your Sims 4 character may overcome their fear of the dark through sheer confidence and willpower, you can also head into the Aspiration shop, buy a Fear-Be-Gone for 300 points, and drink it to make it go away instantly. You can gain more points by progressing through your aspirations or fulfilling your Sim’s wants.

Tip:

If you’re looking for a quick, but permanent, fix you can go to the game options and turn Wants and Fears off and back on. Be warned: this will reset everyone’s, not just yours!

Overcome Fear of the Dark in Sims 4 with Cheats

It is also possible to help your Sim overcome their fear of the dark with cheats. One community member on Reddit found a method that has worked for them:

  1. Use the cheat “traits.equip_trait trait_Fear_Dark” (this adds the fear trait back to your sim).
  2. Get out of the scared moodlet by being inside for 4 hrs.
  3. Gain a confident moodlet (brush teeth, psych self up, whatever).
  4. Go outside at night time (while it’s dark outside).
