How to Open the Map in Hollow Knight Silksong 

If you’re starting off in Hollow Knight Silksong, you’re likely to easily get lost early on with the winding paths and large chambers. The need for a map is evident quite early on, but it can take you a while to get one.

Here’s how to find and open the map in Hollow Knight Silksong.

How to Open the Map in Silksong

To open up the map, you can simply press LB on the controller or the Tab key on mouse and keyboard. Pressing the M button or the back button opens up the world map. However, you won’t initially have a map to open, and will need to purchase it from Shakra the singing bug.

How to Find the Map in Silksong

You can purchase the map and other mapping components from Shakra, who is located near the top left region of Bone Marrow. This is also the top right region of Bone Bottom and the place where both regions meet. You’ll know you’re near her when you can hear a female bug singing “Lai Lai Lai”.

Head towards the sound and speak with her. She’ll offer a few items for purchase:

• Map – 40 Rosary Beads
• Marrow Map – 50 Rosary Beads
• Quill – 50 Rosary Beads
• Compass – 70 Rosary Beads

You’ll have to buy the map and the Marrow Map or the Quill to be able to use the map, as the map itself is initially blank. The Marrow Map gives you a rough outline of the Marrow Region, while the Quill lets you fill out the regions you’ve explored. The Compass is also essential to get your bearings. All in all, the map and its items will cost you a total of 210 Rosary Beads.

You can also purchase Bench Pins and Shell Markers for 60 and 40 Rosary Beads, respectively. These will help you keep track of benches around the map and also mark locations of interest.

Equip the Compass

Just purchasing the Compass is not enough, as you actually need to equip it before you can see its effects. Head towards a bench and sit down. Then open up your menu and equip the Compass from your list of items. Once you have the Compass equipped, you can see Hornet’s location on the map.

Later on, you’ll have to look for Shakra again in subsequent regions to buy their maps and then fill them out. Keep an ear out for the singing bug, and you won’t lose your way.
