The latest version of Honkai Star Rail is now available on PC and other platforms. The new update brings new content to explore, characters to try out, and loot to earn. Despite an updated launcher from miHoYo, there are still some technical issues that make it difficult to actually update the game. This guide will walk you through the complete steps to manually update Honkai Star Rail to version 2.3 on PC.

Manually update to Honkai Star Rail 2.3

With this method, you can directly download the patch files from the miHoYo servers without using the launcher. The files are the same ones that the launcher uses and we don’t privately host the files.

Note: This guide assumes that Honkai Star Rail is currently at version 2.2 on your PC

Honkai Star Rail Patch Files

Download the following patch files for version 2.3 using a third-party download manager of your choice. Only download one file at a time to avoid corruption issues in the zip files.

You need the Patch file, and at least one audio file pack. Make sure to download the audio pack corresponding to your Windows default language.

Step 1: Initiate the Update in the Launcher

First, make sure the launcher is updated. This happens automatically when you run the launcher. After updating the launcher, initiate the download for the new patch. After a few seconds, pause the update.

Step 2: Exit the Launcher

After you have paused the update, go ahead and exit the launcher. Make sure it isn’t running in the background either.

Step 3: Move Zip Files to Games Folder

Now, move the zip files to the Games folder where Honkai Star Rail is installed on your PC. Replace any temporary files (uncomplete_tmp).

C:\Program Files\Star Rail\Games

Step 4: Resume the Launcher Download

Finally, run the launcher again, and resume the download. The launcher will automatically detect the downloaded files.

That’s all you need to do, and you should be able to start version 2.3 without any problems. However, the launcher may download some additional files after this. That’s completely normal, and minor patches are common. We hope that miHoYo continues to work on their launcher in the future, so players with unreliable connections can easily update their games as well.
