How to Holster Your Gun in The Precinct

Keep it in your pocket.

Upholding the law and maintaining order can be tricky in The Precinct. Sometimes you need to flash your badge, and other times you’re writing parking tickets for unattended vehicles. But if you’ve accidentally drawn your gun, here’s how to holster it in The Precinct.

Holster Your Gun in The Precinct

To holster your drawn weapon in The Precinct, hold LB / L1 on your controller or Tab if you’re playing on a keyboard and mouse. Cordell will holster his weapon, and in true video game fashion, it will practically vanish into thin air.

As threatening as he looks with a gun, a drawn weapon doesn’t have any effect on civilians. No one is intimidated by it, but it just looks weird having your gun out like that when you’re on a normal patrol. This is partly because of how immersive the game can be at times, so you want to ensure that you’re doing the right thing.

This is the same input no matter which weapon you have equipped.

Can You Shoot Civilians in the Precinct?

Technically, you can shoot at civilians, but it leads to an instant failure state if you hit anyone. You don’t even have to kill them, but a small amount of damage inflicted is enough to put you out of service. So, I’d advise not doing that, even by accident. You’re a good cop, Cordell, act like it.

You can aim at civilians and they won’t bat an eye, but if you shoot around them, they will run away. This isn’t considered an illegal action, so you can technically cause a small amount of havoc, as long as no one gets shot in the process.

I don’t find that it has any utility, though, and you’re just adding an unnecessary risk of shooting someone, which leads to a failure state. You can shoot at suspects, however, but you will lose XP in the process if you aren’t authorized to use force for the particular crime.

For some reason, however, you can hit civilians in your car. The in-game logic is that they jump out of the way, but I don’t know, I have seen a few get trampled by the wheels of justice.
