The seeds for Sapphire Gloom can be found in the Study room, which can be unlocked once you solve the Library code and symbol puzzles. The key is in the secret Library room along with the Nightfall seeds, but we cannot make that plant just yet.

There are only two clues to fill out the Sapphire Gloom entry: the Tree Diseases and Mushroom Book notes. Both can be found in the Study alongside the Sapphire Gloom seeds.

The Tree Diseases book explains Hypoxylon, a disease that causes black patches on trees and means it has withered from lack of hydration and will not live much longer. Meanwhile, the Mushroom Book says that mushrooms growing on a tree means that it is consuming it, but a handwritten note on the page explains that it is not always the case.

Go down to the planting station at the front entrance and prepare a pot of Sapphire Gloom with the seeds. There is a tree in the main lobby that has become so overgrown that it blocks a door on the second floor. It also has several black patches on the tree itself.

Place the plant at the base of the tree where the circular placeholder is and the Sapphire Gloom will soon grow from the pot. It will also extend all over the tree, and cause the tree branch blocking the door on the second floor to move aside. This completes the Sapphire Gloom and allows players to reach the Attic, which is necessary for players to grow the Nightfall plant.
