How to Get Tripwires in Escape from Tarkov

These rats are everywhere...

Tripwires is a game-changing and highly controversial addition to Escape from Tarkov. Since PvP has high risks and rewards, dying from a tripwire from carelessness will leave a taste of dissatisfaction like no other. You cannot say the same for the player who placed it there, though. Tripwires is here to stay, and it is one of the main mechanics tied to the 0.15 patch boss, Partisan. Here’s how to get those Tripwires or Tripwire Installation Kits in Escape from Tarkov.

Where to Get Tripwires in Escape from Tarkov

Tripwires can only be obtained through Jaeger; they cannot be found in the raid or purchased at the flea market. Jaeger won’t be able to sell you the Tripwire Installation Kits until you reach player level 40 and finish the Rough Tarkov quest. The quest requires you to locate the heavily mined area on Woods and the Claymore mine on Ground Zero. It is basically an “initiation” to the Tripwire mechanics, and it’ll take a while to get there.

Nevertheless, some players will gain more experience and unlock this faster, so you better watch out for those Tripwires roughly five days after the patch. Give it a month, and everyone will be using these Tripwires.

How Does Tripwires Work in Escape from Tarkov?

Once you have the Tripwire Installation Kit, you can place this short-wired grenade on any flat surface to plant it. If anyone or anything, including yourself, passes by the tripwire, the grenade will explode, similar to how the impact grenades work, which is already in the game.

To bypass these Tripwires, you can choose a different route or destroy them. Any kind of “physical” object that passes through the wire will detonate it. So, if you throw some items on it, it’ll trigger the grenade. It doesn’t make sense to drop items because you’ll still be within the blast radius.

Your only choice is to shoot the wire or the grenade. This will make a sound, which really adds to the mind games involved in this tactical skirmish. You can also lure Scavs (AI) to detonate the Tripwires.

Here’s an advanced tip: AI or PC Scavs tend to loot items in their general area. If you can place a weapon near the Tripwire, it should have a high chance of baiting a nearby Scav to pick it up and trigger the Tripwire. Since there were no shots fired, the player who planted the Tripwire might think someone died to it, and that player will eventually loot.

You can now wait for this player to loot and perfectly set up this reverse trap. Note: Scav squeals or screams something when they die, and veteran Tarkov players will know if a Scav dies or not. If the Scav doesn’t make a noise, you are still clear to do the trick.
