Most of the trophies needed to 100% Valor Mortis aren’t that complicated. Sure, some of them might take some time and grinding, but you will be able to get them eventually. The only exception is the Abyssal Eviction Trophy.

It is a missable trophy in Valor Mortis that requires you to kill an enemy by pushing them into the abyss with Shield Bash. At first glance, the trophy looks quite easy to get; however, there is a small caveat. To get Shield Bash, you need to max out Shield Transmutation by using Quintessential Transmutation Material. The caveat is that there are only two of them in the entire game.

Here’s how to unlock Shield Bash and get the Abyssal Eviction trophy in Valor Mortis.

How to Unlock Shield Bash in Valor Mortis

To unlock Shield Bash, you need to upgrade your Shield Transmutation to Level 5. Of course, first you need to find the shield. You can find the Shield at the University, in the Main Hall area, after crossing a chandelier.

Once you’ve obtained the Shield, you’ll need to upgrade it using Transmutation Materials. The final upgrade requires a Quintessential Transmutation Material, which is one of the rarest upgrade materials in the game.

At the time of writing, there are only two known Quintessential Transmutation Materials available for upgrading Transmutations. You can obtain them from the following locations:

  • Monster Hunt side quest: Complete the Monster Hunt quest in the City of Orphans by collecting all 17 drawings.
  • Fortress: Travel to the Traverse Lantern and light both signal fires to open the gates. Head through the gate and open the chest on your left to find another Quintessential Transmutation Material.

This is the most important part of getting both Shield Bash and the trophy. You need to save one of these materials in order to max out the Shield Transmutation. If you end up spending the two materials on the other transmutations, you will not be able to get the Abyssal Eviction trophy.

How to Get the Abyssal Eviction Trophy

Once you’ve upgraded Shield to Level 5, you can attempt to earn the trophy. The best way to go about it is to complete the achievement at the Fortress. That’s where the second Quintessential Transmutation material is.

  1. Travel to Fortress: Fast travel to the Traverse Lantern.
  2. Find the enemies: Head up the hill, pass through the gate, and follow the path around the outside of the castle toward the tower. Two human enemies will approach you.
  3. Lure an enemy to the edge: Draw one of the enemies toward the nearby wooden platform. Position yourself so the enemy is between you and the drop.
  4. Use Shield Bash: Activate Shield and perform Shield Bash to knock the enemy backward toward the edge.
  5. Make sure the enemy falls: The enemy must die from falling into the abyss for the trophy to unlock. If the attempt fails, return to the nearby Lantern to reset the encounter and try again.

Once an enemy dies from the fall caused by Shield Bash, you’ll unlock Abyssal Eviction.

Can You Get Abyssal Eviction After Beating Valor Mortis?

You can continue exploring after completing the main story, so you don’t need to earn Abyssal Eviction before the final boss. However, the trophy can become unavailable if you’ve already spent both Quintessential Transmutation Materials on other upgrades.
